Previews: Lidl NFL Div4

Leitrim, Limerick and Offaly will be looking to build on victories last weekend, while Carlow and London are in a battle to pick up their first league points in Division 4 of the Lidl Ladies NFL on Sunday.

Sunday February 20:

Lidl NFL Division 4A:

Derry v Leitrim; Celtic Park

Leitrim were beaten Division 4 Finalists in 2021 and are anxious to get back to another Final – and get the job done this time.

Their big win over Fermanagh in Round 1 was a real statement of intent and now they face off against Derry, who lost their opening game to Antrim.

The signs point to a Leitrim win but Derry won’t be easily turned over on home soil.

Fermanagh v Antrim; Donagh

Fermanagh will hope to bounce back from quickly from a heavy loss to Leitrim last weekend – as Antrim aim to build on their win against Derry.

An Ulster derby will bring added spice to proceedings but on early season form, Antrim will be fancied to get the job done.

Whatever the result, however, there won’t be much between the sides at the final whistle, with Antrim targeting a second win on the bounce.

Lidl NFL Division 4B:

Limerick v Offaly; Staker Wallace, Martinstown

Limerick began their campaign with a six-point win against London, as Offaly enjoyed a handsome victory in their clash with Carlow.

These two sides are promotion hopefuls and, irrespective of the result of this one, they could still end up occupying the top two positions at the end of the group phase.

For now, Limerick and Offaly will look to strike an early-season psychological blow, and this could be one of the games of the weekend.

Carlow v London; Netwatch Cullen Park

After losing their first round games, Carlow and London both need the points to revive hopes of a promotion push.

London make another trip across the water to take on a Carlow side smarting from a 17-point reverse against Offaly.

The Barrowsiders will aim to show they’re better than that but London will provide a stiff test.

Limerick v London

Roundup: Lidl NFL Div4

There were home wins all round as Antrim, Offaly, Leitrim and Limerick claimed wins in the opening round of the Lidl Ladies NFL Division 4 - the latter beating a London side making their first appearance in the competition since 2008.

Lidl NFL Division 4A

Antrim 2-16 Derry 1-8; Davitt Park, Belfast
Powered by goals from Lara Dahunsi and Orlaith Prenter, with contributions from Grainne McLaughlin and Cathy Carey, enabled Antrim to put double scores on Derry.

Antrim powered into a five-point lead by the first half water break.

Derry did try to muscle their way back into contention to trail by four at the half time.

Orlaith Pender hit the game's opening goal in the second half and the momentum allowed Antrim to ease comfortably to the final whistle.

Meanwhile. Leitrim easily put Fermanagh to the sword 4-18 to 1-06.

Lidl NFL Division 4B

Offaly 3-15 Carlow 0-7; Ballinamere
Offaly propelled by a balanced team performance made light work of Carlow.

Marie Byrne, two goals and Saorah Doyle, one, complimented a commanding displaywith noteworthy contributions coming from Amy Gavin Mangan, Fiona Dempsey and Aoife Carey.

Offaly led 1-10 to 0-02 at the break and ran out 3-15 to 0-07 winners, in the end.

Limerick 2-9 London 0-9; Staker Wallace
Limerick saw off a valiant London challenge on home-soil at Martinstown, with goals key.

London making their return to league football after an absence of 14 years and their first competitive start in three years.

The sides were level at the break at 0-5 apiece, however second half goals by Mairead Kavanagh and Catriona Davis sealed the win for new manager Graham Shine, in his first competitive outing in charge.

London will return to the league more equipped following this experience, they will be competitive in 2022.
