Sligo awarded 3-0 defeat after fielding ineligible player

An independent Disciplinary Committee of the Football Association of Ireland has determined that Sligo Rovers FC fielded an ineligible player, in their recent meeting with Dundalk, seeing them forfeit the game by a 3-0 scoreline.

The Disciplinary Control Unit of the Football Association of Ireland had charged Sligo Rovers FC earlier this week, for fielding a suspended player in their SSE Airtricity Premier Division game on Monday, August 29th.

Adam McDonnell had played in their 2-0 win over Dundalk, but was deemed to have been suspended for the tie, the FAI have ruled that the result now goes the way of Dundalk seeing them jump up to second in the table.

We have also received word that the Dublin derby between Shelbourne and St Patrick’s Athletic, originally scheduled to be played on Sunday, August 7th 2022, will now be re fixed at a later date arranged by the league, St Pats of course were stuck in Bulgaria and could not fly home in time to fulfil the fixture.
