Scot Sam arrives at Oriel

Dundalk have added the next member of the 2021 squad in the form of former Scottish underage international Sam Stanton who spend last season with Phoenix Rising in the USL.

Stanton broke through at Hibernian during the 2011/12 season with his debut coming at Ibrox against Rangers. He went on to spend periods at Cowdenbeath, Livingston, Dumbarton & Dundee United before a permanent move to Tannadice Park in 2018.

In a conversation with the club’s website Dundalk sporting director Jim Magilton said: “I’m delighted to welcome Sam to the club. He will provide real competition and experience to an area of the pitch where we needed strengthening following recent departures and I know we are all really looking forward to working with him and developing his game even further.”

Stanton said: “I had a phone call with Filippo Giovagnoli and I really liked what he said to me.

“Dundalk is a good club and I’m really excited to be here. I felt it was an opportunity I couldn’t really turn down.”

Stanton is the fifth-close season arrival at Oriel Park, all of them foreign, following the signings of Albanian-Italian goalkeeper Alessio Abiba, Faroese centre-half Sonni Nattestad, Latvian left-back Raivis Jurkovskis and Norwegian striker Ole Erik Midtskogen.
