Match Report

Cabo Four’za victory in Limerick

Cabinteely returned to form in sparking fashion with a 4-1 victory over Treaty United at the Markets Field. The result keeps alive the hopes of a promotion play-off spot for the Dubliners, who climb to seventh in the League of Ireland First Division. They saw off 10-man Treaty in rain-soaked Limerick.

Cabinteely were nearing two months without a victory, though that did come in Munster, away to Cork City in June.

For Treaty, they were looking to continue their decent home form, which had seen them defeated just once at the Markets Field, but they were off the pace in the contest.

Goals from Vilius Labutis, Kieran ‘Marty’ Waters, Kevin Knight and Niall Barnes all scored for the vicitors, with Clyde O’Connell scoring, before being dismissed.

Labutis opened the scoring after just seven minutes, as he was razor-sharp inside the box as a shot was half-blocked and found its way to the attacker eight-yards out and he finished through the legs of Tadhg Ryan.

Labutis was heavily involved in the second goal, setting Waters free with a short pass and the ex-Bray Wanderers striker raced beyond the scattered defence to double the lead. He slotted low, left-footed beyond Ryan.

It was 2-1 at the interval as the hosts had hope with a stoppage time goal. Marc Ludden provided the perfect delivery which O’Connell smashed to the net which was met with a huge roar of the 900 paying home spectators.

O’Connell tripped Keith Dalton for a penalty and was sent straight off by referee Alan Patchell. Kevin Knight made no mistake from 12 yards.

The result was secure when Niall Barnes fired home on 69 minutes. The slippy conditions exposed Treaty’s makeshift defence, however, they had fought back well to be 2-1 behind, only for the red card and penalty decision to scupper their chances.

Treaty went close late on through Joel Coustrain and Marc Ludden but Pat Devlin’s side ended their six game losing streak in the league to pull off their best result of the season. Treaty slip to third on goal difference, but didn’t lose any ground on Galway United, following their defeat to Cork City.
