Kilnamanagh advance with away win over Kevin’s

An impressive 2nd half display from The Rockets and a Dean Clarke brace puts Kilnamanagh AFC through into the next round of the FAI Cup.

Keith Foy’s side overcame St Kevin’s Boys with a convincing 4-1 win. Other goals from Gary McCabe and Sean Byrne sealed the win for the away outfit.

Kilnamanagh got off to a great start after just six minutes when Dean Clarke capitalised on a defensive error by Kevin’s centre back Conor McKenna. Clarke made no mistake as he fired past Gavin Browne in the Kevin’s net.

Just over 15 minutes later the ball fell to Jordan Cromwell after a great ball into the Rockets box and the Kevin’s man calmly placed it past Coleman to level the game.

The visitors came firing out of the blocks after conceding and midfielder Gary McCabe smashed the ball off the Kevin’s crossbar. Vinny McCarthy’s outfit created chances of their own during the first period also with Bobby O’Reilly’s deflected shot from 30 yards out narrowly missing the target.

Gavin Browne made a couple of fantastic stops throughout the first period to make sure the sides went in level at the interval.

Foy’s side started the second half at an incredible pace and were rewarded after just seven minutes when Sean Byrne pounced on an Anthony Hanevy cross from close range where he fired home past Browne. Five minutes later, Gary McCabe stepped up on the edge of the Kevin’s area for a free kick which he rifled home into the top corner to put daylight between the two sides.

First half goal scorer Dean Clarke was a handful for Kevin’s throughout the whole game and scored a stunner of his own 15 minutes from time when he cut in from the left wing and rifled a shot into the top right corner to seal the win for the away side.

Kevin’s had chances of their own towards the end of the 2nd period when the ever lively Stephen Cantwell had two efforts saved by Karl Coleman in the Kilnamanagh net.
