O’Gorman and O’Callaghan deliver in Peas win
Peamount have gone three points clear at the top of the table, after a tough 2-1 win over DLR Waves, at PRL Park this evening.
Goals by Aine O’Gorman and Lauryn O'Callaghan, were enough to give the home side all three points. They were made work for it however as a freak Rachel Doyle free kick, almost cost the side two points in the second half.
From the start Peamount looked stronger, but a great final period by DLR, added by a freak goal for the visitors, made for a nervous time for The Peas.
The first chance of the tie fell to Peamount, a cross from O’Gorman was whipped across goal, but Eleanor Ryan-Doyle failed to meet the ball, which could have easily made it 1-0 for her side.
Long range shooting seemed to be the tactic for The Peas, the side trying shots from distance, in the hopes of beating Eve Badana in the Waves goal, the keeper well capable of dealing with the efforts.
The first main change for the visitors came in the 28th minute, Jetta Berrill found space in the box, but her shot failed to hit the target.
Ryan-Doyle thought she had found the opener, ten minutes before the break, Badana came out to clear a cross but missed the ball, she was left stranded out of her goal, Ryan-Doyle fired an effort toward goal, but her shot was headed clear by Jessica Gleeson.
The opening goal came just after the hour mark, O’Gorman, back in the side from the weekend; shot toward goal with the ball managing to go through the hands of Badana and into the net.
In a 20-minute spell we had all three goals in the tie, Rachel Doyle found the back of the net, just two minutes after coming off the bench. She fired a free kick into the box, the ball managed to elude everyone and go directly into the net.
The match winner came in the 78th minute, a surprising goal scorer, as right back O'Callaghan, got into the box and fired past Badana.

A lively start by both sides here, neither have tested in front of goal just yet
The visitors have struggled to close the gap with the top three sides, in recent weeks. Two wins in their last five have seen them comfortably remain in 4th spot, but a 1-1 draw at the weekend saw them slip up at home against Athlone. A second half penalty for Athlone, enough to level the tie.
No team news yet, Peamount will be aiming to make it five games unbeaten in the league should they win tonight, the win would sent them three points ahead of second place Shelbourne, the side behind by virtue of goal difference. Goals have been a strong subject for the home side this season, putting five past Cork this weekend, in their last league outing
