Match Report
Sligo Rovers enjoyed a comfortable 3-1 win at home over bottom side UCD this evening in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division A goal in each half from Fabrice Hartmann built on an early header from Max Mata which ruled out Mark Dignam’s fine strike just before the break. John Russell will be delighted to his side’s response after a run of six games which only yielded a single victory as they begin to look up the table once again. The home fans didn’t have long to wait for the opening chance of the game. Max Mata closed down a back pass and managed to block Kian Moore’s attempted clearance. Mata fed the ball to Kailin Barlow but the youngster wasn’t able to get the ball past Kian Moore who produced a fine save to deny the midfielder. Minutes later it was Barlow who turned provider for Mata. His corner met by the New Zealander’s head at the near post to power the ball past Moore to get the Bit O’Red faithful on their feet and ease any nerves in the mind of Rover’s boss John Russell. After 18 minutes UCD created the best chance of the half as they worked the ball brilliantly through the Rovers rearguard. The referee played a great advantage as Nando Pinajker tugged back Jake Doyle on the edge of the box, but he managed to get his pass away to Alex Nolan. Nolan pulled the ball back onto his left foot and forced a top notch save from McNicholas. His teammate Brendan Barr then saw his effort from the rebound blocked by Pinajker out for a throw into the students. UCD were thrown a life line at the death of the first half when a lofted free kick was half cleared by McNicholas who collided with a teammate and Mark Dignam smashed it home from the edge of the box. Rovers dominated the second half and just after the hour mark Mata nearly got a second when he found himself on the end of a whipped low cross from Barlow but Moore made a fabulous save from the Kiwi striker. Hartmann would find the net moments later when his deflected effort from the edge of the box looped over the head of Moore to reopen the two goal advantage. Substitute Frank Liivak came on with ten minutes to go and almost made it four with a fine move but his effort was always going high and wide of the UCD goal.Hartmann Strikes Twice As Sligo Ease Past UCD

Kailin Barlow is really enjoying himself out there now. A lovely little piece of skill to get past a UCD defender but it just runs out of his control. Manages to win the corner though.
And it's two. Fabrice Hartmann has the crowd on their feet again after a brilliant 1-2 with Barlow set the German free on the edge of the box. He ghosted past the defender and slotted the ball past Kian Moore to double Rover's advantage.
