Match Report
A superb header from Paddy Barrett in the 90th minute earned Shels a stunning win over St. Pat’s in an entertaining Dublin Derby at Tolka Park. De Silva Cabal was only on the pitch seconds when he toe poked the ball home in the 80th minute for a deserved eqauliser for the home side. Shels had gone behind to a Joe Redmond goal in the 28th minute. Pat’s finished the game with 10 men after Jay McGrath was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 65th minute. Shels were the better side in the opening quarter. Their pace caught Pat’s on a number of occasions. Will Jarvis hit his effort over the bar in the seventh minute and one minute later Harry Wood shot at Dean Lyness. In the 11th minute Jack Moylan did well to hold the ball up, Wood picked up the ball, he burst through before playing the ball wide to Evan Caffrey who really should’ve done better with his shot. Despite their good start Shels found themselves going behind in the 20th minute. Jamie Lennon’s pinpoint cross found Redmond at the backpost and he headed home. In the 28th minute Chris Forrester spotted Conor Kearns off his goal-line and tried his luck from deep in his own half but Kearns scrambled back to save. On the half hour mark Moylan got into the box but Pat’s were able to clear. Shels tried to get back into the game. Mark Coyle then found space to take a shot but he put it over the bar. Right before the break Mark Doyle played a ball to Forrester but he directed his effort over. Shels started the second half like they had the first and piled on their pressure as they went in search of an equaliser. In the 58th minute they’d appeals for a penalty turned down; it looked like Moylan’s ball into the box hit the arm of McGrath. In the 60th minute Moylan again caused problems. He cut inside the box but Lennon did well and the ball was put out for a corner. Five minutes later and Pat’s were reduced to 10 men when McGrath was sent off for a second yellow card for a second foul on Moylan. Pat’s had to defend as Shels tried to make use of the numerical advantage. In the 72nd minute Anto Breslin cleared Jarvis’ effort off the line. Damien Duff made changes and it was two subs that combined for the equaliser. Shane Farrell’s cross was finished to the net by Cabral in the 80th minute. In the 90th minute Barrett headed home Wood’s corner to give Shels a fantastic win.Former Saint Barrett steals it for Shels against Pats
