Match Report
Bohemians Cruise To Victory Over Cork
Jonathan Afolabi scored a brace as Bohemians finished off their league season with a facile win over Cork City at Dalymount Park.
Danny Grant opened the scoring for Bohs in the 12th minute but Afolabi got his first goal in first half stoppage time. An own goal from City defender Sam Bailey got Bohs third goal in the 51st minute before Afolabi grabbed his second six minutes later.
During the game Bohs fans experienced the high of their side moving into 4th place in the table and in Europe but midway during the second half they were back down to reality when Bohs dropped down to 6th.
It was a scrappy start by both sides. The heavy pitch didn’t help either with their football. Bohs took the lead in the 12th minute through Grant. Cian Byrne played a good ball out of defence to Bart Kukulowicz he in turn found Grant on the far side, he cut inside before firing to the net with a touch off Cork’s Sam Bailey.
Jordan Flores’ shot in the 20th minute was blocked by Oran Crowe as Bohs went in search of a second goal. Minutes later Crowe was called into action again blocking efforts from James Clarke and Flores.
In the 23rd minute a Flores free was headed over by Afolabi. Flores chased down a ball minutes later and his effort just went wide. Cork City didn’t offer much in that opening half. Ruairi Keating hit a shot in the 35th minute but it was straight at James Talbot.
Grant fired over in the 41st minute, when he should’ve done better. In first half stoppage time Bohs doubled their advantage. Grant with a pinpoint cross and Afolabi with a header; his 14th league goal of the season.
Bohs got their third goal in the 51st minute; Paddy Kirk made a surging run down the left side he took a shot and the ball was deflected into his own net by City defender Bailey.
In the 57th minute Afolabi got his second goal and his side’s fourth; James Clarke with a lovely through ball and Afolabi with a fine finish.
The game petered out with both managers emptying their bench. Bigger games for both sides to look forward to now. For Bohs an FAI Cup Final against St. Pat’s while for Cork City the promotion/relegation play-off.
