Bray deliver away to Cabo’
The Seagulls cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win away to Cabinteely at Stradbrook tonight in the League of Ireland First Division.
Strikes from Joe Doyle, Sam Verdon and Brandon Kavanagh sealed the win for the away side as they keep their promotion hopes alive heading into the final stretch of the season.
Gary Cronin’s side started the game the better of the sides with talisman Joe Doyle causing the Cabinteely defence big problems from the first whistle. Mark Byrne’s left footed cross was headed just over the bar by Doyle inside the first ten minutes. The Seagulls’ dictated the play from the off and looked to play out from the back at every possible occasion.
The away side came close to opening the scoring through midfielder Darren Craven. Joe Doyle chased down a through ball and before squaring it to the on rushing Craven who couldn’t keep his effort down much to the relief of the Cabo defence.
Cabo came close themselves just under the half hour mark, when striker Ben Feeney collected the ball just outside the six yard box following Barnes’ cross come shot, but the young forward couldn’t keep his effort down.
Bray made the breakthrough after 30 minutes when Craven and Kavanagh linked up excellently on the edge of the Cabo box, before slotting the ball through to the lively Joe Doyle; who placed the ball past Quinn to give his side the lead over his former club. The away side went into the interval with a one goal advantage.
Pat Devlin’s charges almost opened the scoring, when his deflected shot went just wide inside the first minute of the second period. Midway through the first half, Dylan Barnett’s corner found centre back Sam Jones whose header bounced off the up right before Sam Verdon followed up from close range to give Bray a two goal lead. This was Verdon’s first goal for the club and the versatile forward linked up excellently throughout the game with both Brandon Kavanagh and Joe Doyle.
The Seagulls never let the home side make any real chances throughout the second half and four minutes from time, Kavanagh got on the end of Callum Thompson’s cross and made no mistake as he fired the ball into the top right corner past Michael Quinn.
This win ensures Bray Wanderers keep their promotion hopes alive as they move five points clear of Athlone Town in sixth place.
