Curran goal helps Treaty remain in playoff push
Treaty United snapped their losing streak with a hard fought 2-0 win over Athlone Town in Lissywollen tonight.
Enda Curran gave the visitors the lead with a beautiful finish in the 21st minute. It stayed that way until the 91st minute when Willie Armshaw wrapped up the points on a counter attack.
Athlone probably were the better side for the first fifteen but failed to produce a good chance. The first time they looked like they could score all half ironically is what led to Treaty’s opener.
Aaron Connolly got the ball on the edge of the area and slipped through Dolia on the left-hand side of the box. His shot was saved by Hallahan and it fell to Pierrot, who was brought down by Darren Nwankwo, cueing Athlone protests.
Treaty broke and moved the ball out to Dean George on the left-hand side. He played a lovely switch to Enda Curran, who lobbed Enda Minogue with an equally gorgeous lob first time from outside the box. Tough on Athlone, but Curran deserves a lot of credit for the finish.
The rest of the half played out in similar fashion. Athlone dominated possession but wasted the ball often. They finished the half strong but to no avail.
The second half went the same way. Athlone were dominant in possession but rarely created big chances. The closest they came after the restart was on the hour mark when following a nice passing move across the Treaty area, Haji Abdikadir had a shot blocked. Pierrot collected the rebound and played it back out to him, when he cut onto his left foot and skimmed the bar. Very nearly a stunning goal.
The town were denied an equaliser less than five minutes from time. Aaron Connolly swung in a corner from the right that Patrick Hickey rose and met but saw his effort headed off the line.
This proved pivotal. Right after injury time started, Success Edogun led a charge on the counter. He slipped it to Stephen Christopher to the left who squared it to Willie Arsmshaw for a tap-in.
It was a hard-fought win for Treaty who snapped a winless streak. Athlone themselves have a winning streak snapped and face a pivotal game against Cobh next week.

Another wasted Athlone chance. Pierrot can hit Lennon or Leal on the break but his ball is behind Lennon and hits off him.
Connolly dinks a free to Fuentes Rodriguez whose header is good but right at Hallahan.
Pierrot plays it to Dolia who takes too long to shoot. He squares it to Abdikadir who shanks it. Athlone knocking on the door.
Goal! Athlone have a penalty claim waved away and George hits Curran on the break who lobs Minogue with a beautiful finish! 1-0 Treaty.
Dean George wins the ball from Fuentes Rodriguez and gets into the Athlone box. Takes a touch when he should shoot and ends up fouling an Athlone defender. Wasted opportunity.
Quiet first ten minutes. Athlone probably on top but with nothing to show as of yet.
Dolia has a chance to hit Treaty on the break but his touch lets him down. Wasted opportunity.

Athlone required a late equaliser against Treaty here earlier in the season and lost 1-0 in Markets Field, so the head to head suggests this might not be as straightforward as it appears.
Athlone come into this one in good form, winning their last three. Treaty on the other hand are without a win in four. Going to the team in third looking for a win is a tall task from their point of view.
