Cabo shock Athlone
Cabinteely pulled off a shock 2-1 away win against Athlone Town tonight in the League of Ireland First Division, thanks to a goal in either half.
Ben Hanrahan's wonder strike in the 69th minute will be the talking point of the game. He took a punt from way out and it was an unstoppable shot for Micheál Schlingermann in the Athlone goal. That put the Dublin side 2-0 up after Niall Barnes had gotten their opener three minutes before half time.
He controlled the ball well in the box to give the visitors the lead at the break. Town's goal came from a mix-up in the box, following a long ball in from Adam Wixted and the rebound came off Dean Casey, who had to watch helplessly as it hit the back of his own net for an own goal.

Killian Cantwell missed at the back post in the 55th for Athlone Town after Kurtis Byrne knocked down the corner to him and Byrne was causing real problems now for Cabinteely. He forced Adam Hayden into another save in the 65th after getting in behind the defence.
But then Hanrahan struck with a super goal from way out and suddenly the visitors were 2-0, against the run of play.
Town knew they were in trouble now and applied lots of pressure. It paid off when that long ball from Wixted was helped to the net by Casey and the home side saw a chunk of light.
To their credit, the Dublin club weathered sustained pressure in the last 20 minutes and were rewarded with all three points as they ran out 2-1 winners.
