Match Report
Two late strikes from Jack Doherty and a Wilson Waweru effort sees Cobh extend their unbeaten run to four games after a win on Shannonside this evening. A game that had plenty of chances especially for the Treaty men but in the end they failed to convert and Cobh who failed to dominate as much would take the win. Tommy Barrett will feel frustrated by the tie, Waweru’s goal looked offside in the buildup and Treaty had bombarded the Cobh area but just failed to convert/ Cobh had the first real chance of the tie inside three minutes, Michael McCarthy worked an effort inside the Treaty area but his effort sailed over, at the other end Dean George with the first effort for Treaty but it was a straightforward shot for Lee Steacy to save. It was the hosts who had much the better of the chances, George got on the end of a ball into the area, Enda Curran did well to stop a ball from going out of play in the buildup and played it for George but his shot was claimed by Steacy. Minutes later a terrific run down the right by Success Edogun sent alarm bells ringing for Cobh, he pinged a low ball into the box but it was put out for a corner before George got any touch to steer it into the Cobh net. The Rams had chances too but like their opening effort sailed over the bar, Pierce Phillips and Wilson Waweru both sent Shane Hallahan looking for the match ball. But the hosts stayed on the attack with a back post header by Enda Curran another big chance, he was able to head at goal but not the best of contact and Steacy gathered. Edogun was fouled outside the area as the pressure remained, a dangerous delivery and after some ping pong the ball struck the post but Cobh just about did enough to clear, we headed to the break at 0-0 with Tommy Barrett’s side the most dangerous. Treaty caused threat from the off in the second half, George forced a corner off the restart, they stayed on the front as Cobh were defending well, Edogun had a great chance early in the second half but his low shot was gathered the second time of asking by Steacy. Cobh would strike first just after the hour mark, Waweru the man to see the net ripple, possible calls for offside, Issa Kargbo with the delivery, Jack Doherty hits an effort that looked to have been dealt with but Kargbo delivered again into the area and Waweru was there to hit it home. Minutes later Treaty came close to getting a quickfire equaliser, another great move by Edogun on the right in the end George had a half volley chance outside the area but his effort just went wide. In a game of very few chances it was Ramblers who took them better and in the end snatched the points as a result, Jack Doherty raced to collect a ball over the top of the Treaty backline and slotted past Halllahan for their second. Again out of nowhere Doherty would grab another goal four minutes later, spotting a gap in the backline before hitting home for the insurance goal, three goals and a big three points for the Cork men.Cobh Hit Second Half Wave To Sink Treaty On Shannonside
