Match Report
Wexford’s final home game of the season ended in stalemate as both sides failed to put away the chances they created. Stephen Walsh came close to breaking the deadlock in the 66th minute but his header from Ronan Manning’s corner came off the crossbar. Both keepers were forced into making a number of excellent saves in the second half. Wexford were guaranteed a sixth-place finish before this game while Galway are two points behind second-place Waterford with one game remaining. Galway took the game to Wexford early and won three corners in a row inside the opening three minutes but nothing came of them. As the game went on Wexford played some good football with Thomas Considine causing Galway problems. He was fouled on the edge of the box in the 13th minute, Jack Doherty stepped up to take the kick and was only inches away with his effort. Despite both teams having possession and half chances created, neither keeper was forced into making a save of note. In the 39th minute Joe Manley played a lovely ball across to Considine, his first touch was neat and he then cut inside before his effort was deflected out for a corner. Minutes later Considine’s effort went wide as Wexford ended the half well. Stephen Walsh headed at Alex Moody at the start of the second half and two minutes later Moody brought off a fantastic save to deny Max Hemmings who found himself in a good position. In the 53rd minute, Luka Lovic found Considine and from a tight angle he hit a fine shot but Conor Kearns pulled off a great save to keep his goal intact. Conor Crowley tested Kearns in the 58th minute but it was well held by the Galway netminder. Stephen Walsh, who had scored against Wexford in the previous three games, hit the crossbar with his header in the 66th minute. Substitute Wilson Waweru forced Moody into making a fine save in the 73rd minute and minutes later James Finnerty volleyed over as the visitors piled on the pressure. Down the other end Wexford substitute Dinny Corcoran hit his effort straight at Kearns.Stalemate in Ferycarrig between Wexford and Galway United
