Slattery bags late, late Shelbourne winner
A 99th minute Pearl Slattery strike stole all three points for Shels in the North Dublin Derby; as Noel King’s side beat Bohemian 3-2 in an entertaining Womens National League game at Tolka Park tonight.
Chloe Darby and Lisa Murphy’s strikes for Bohs looked to have sealed a draw for the away side. However, goals from Saoirse Noonan and Centre Backs, Jessie Stapleton and Slattery; meant Shels stay level with Peamount United at the top of the table.
Bohemians shocked the hosts with an early strike courtesy of a Lisa Murphy header after Darby whipped a dangerous ball into the area to give the visitors an early advantage.
The first 20 minutes Shelbourne struggled to break down the defensive structure of Bohs, and became frustrated with their decision making in the final third.
Keeva Keenan almost equalised for Shels when she cut in from the left wing and her shot from distance looked destined for the top corner before Courtney Maguire made an excellent stop to deny the Shels’ attacker.
The hosts did break down their Dublin counterparts defence when Noonan capitalised on Jamie Finn’s blocked shot before slotting past Maguire to draw the sides level seven minutes from the interval.
Shels could have gone into the break ahead when the lively Emily Whelan drove through the Bohs defence but her strike went just wide off the net. The sides went in level at half time.
King’s charges were putting pressure on the Bohemians’ defence as soon as the second period was started and almost took the lead through Whelan when she latched onto a through ball from Ciara Grant but her one on one effort was saved by Maguire. Shelbourne did take the lead just after the hour mark when centre back Jessie Slattery rifled home from ten yards into the top right corner to put the home side in front.
Shelbourne’s joy was short lived though when Erica Burke caused havoc in the Shelbourne area before Chloe Darby equalised from just inside the area, 90 seconds after Shelbourne took the lead.
Bohemians got a real boost after Darby’s strike and began putting passes together and causing the Shels defence some trouble. Substitute Hannah Tobin-Jones then made a late challenge on Whelan and the Bohs defender was shown her second yellow card and the away side were down to 10 for the last few minutes.
After a couple of injuries during stoppage time, Shelbourne were still attacking in the 99th minute and after Ciara Grant’s ball found centre back Pearl Slattery , she made no mistake as she danced past two Bohs players before smashing the ball home to steal all three points for the title contenders.

Into the eight minute of injury time with Finnegan down injured for Bohs.
Noonan blasts home but the linesman's flagged is raised much to the disbelief of the home side.
The ball flashes past the six yard box and somehow isn't turned in. Not long left.
Corner for Shels deep into injury time.
Noonan's half volley goes just over the Bohs crossbar. Still level with 90 minutes played
Finnegan brings down Whelan on the edge of the box and sees yellow for her poor tackle.
Tobin Jones is shown a second yellow for her challenge on Whelan. Bohs down to 10 players for the remainder of the game.
Slattery's header from a Finn free kick goes straight into the hands of Maguire.
That Darby strike has really lifted the tempo of the away side. Just under 20 minutes to go.
And Chloe Darby has just equalised for Bohs and it's all square again. Her fifth of the season.

Whelan is played through by Noonan but her shot is saved by Maguire. The follow up cross by Grant is placed straight into Finn who's effort is also saved by Maguire.
Burke does well to beat a couple of defenders as she drove towards the Shels area but Stapleton made a great challenge to stop the Bohemians' attack.
All Shels again since the second half began. Mia Dodd looking dangerous down the right hand side since coming on.
And we're underway for the second half. Shelbourne kicking us off.
Both teams back on the pitch ahead of the second period.
Half Time and the sides go in all square. Shels dominant after a rough start for the hosts.
Whelan comes close after a driving run through the heart of the Boh's defense. Her effort goes narrowly wide of Maguire and then Bohemian's net.
Reddy replaces Kane
Noonan gets on the end of Finn's deflected shot and finishes from close range. All level at Tolka Park.
Finn makes some space for herself inside the Bohs area but her shot is matched by Maguire who makes another save.
Noonan with an effort from distance which is excellently saved by Maguire.
Bronagh Kane has been cleaning everything up in the middle for Bohs so far in this first period.
Noelle Murray playing well for the home side but all round Shelbourne have been sloppy in the Bohs final third with the visitors happy to defend their lead.
Shelbourne have responded well since going behind but have struggled to find that final killer pass in the Bohs half.
