Impressive Rockmount Too Strong For Bluebell in Cup Final

Two second half goals were enough for Rockmount to claim the FAI Intermediate Cup trophy in a 2-0 victory over Bluebell United at Turners Cross.

Rockmount were the better side early on as the Cork side unsurprisingly had the majority of the support over their Dublin opponents.

Niall Hanley thought he had the ball in the net on six minutes, however his righted footed effort hit the side netting.

Bluebell were content to sit in and hit on the break with Sodiq Oguntula and Noeem Adekunle looking dangerous on the flanks without creating any clear cut chances.

This was a team throughout a half which was dominated by set-pieces in which both Goalkeepers were kept on red alert despite not being truly tested.

Having said that, Rockmount keeper Brendan O’Connell did have to tip a dangerous cross over the bar in the 38th minute while Hanley kept Erne Lemantovic on his toes at the other end with a couple of speculative efforts.

Lemantovic was in the thick of the action at the beginning of the second half as he conceded a penalty on Eoin Murphy when he was brought down after capitalising on a mistake from the Bluebell defence.

Murphy duly stood up and scored to give the Cork side the lead with fifty-four minutes on the clock.
Rockmount nearly doubled their lead moments later when Luke Casey ran through on goal forcing Lemantovic into a terrific save at his near post.

Their second goal did come in the 66th minute after Cian Murphy’s powerful header found the roof of the net after a well worked corner.

Bluebell came back into it with substitute Lee Duffy having the best chance of the game for the Dubliners when he forced an excellent save from O’Connell in the 74th minute.

Shane Dolan’s side could not find a way back however as Rockmount sealed their first title since 2008.
