Match Report
Shaunagh McCarthy scored an impeccable crossed effort late in the opening half, enough to see Cork come from behind against Wexford, to play out a 1-1 draw at Ferrycarrig Park this evening. Was it a shot or was it a cross?, either way McCarthy will not care too much, as her goal saw her side get their second point of the season, as they held on for a strong second half defensive display to keep Wexford out. Wexford took the lead and had plenty of chances throughout the game, but McCarthy’s incredible effort on goal, saw them jump above Athlone but could have jumped to fifth, at the other end of the field, Abby McCarthy made a host of saves to keep Wexford to just one goal in the tie. Wexford had a much better share of the possession early on, their first chance at goal came after three minutes, Rianna Jarrett arrived at the back post to head a corner just wide, four minutes later she almost turned provider for Abbie Brophy with a back heel, but the pass just eluded her. Jarrett almost made it 1-0 a minute later, Aoibheann Clancy made her through and some fancy footwork, saw the forward create space to shoot past Abby McCarthy, but Cork had bodies back to clear the danger. Cork had their first chance ten minutes in, Christina Dring evaded a couple Wexford defenders, but her shot went into the hands of Maeve Williams, soon after Wexford had appeals for a penalty as Jarrett went down in the area but match referee David Berry waved away the protests. Youths still had much more possession and were really putting the Cork defence to work, another dangerous corner was crossed right on top of McCarthy in the Cork goal but they managed to clear the danger. The opener would come 22 minutes in from a familiar face, Emily Corbet cut inside to beat her defender on the left wing and drilled a low shot into the back of the net past McCarthy for the lead. Five minutes later Corbett came close to bagging a second, she latched onto a long goal kick by Williams, got a shot past the onrushing McCarthy who rushed out of her box, but little power saw Alix Mendez back to mop up the danger. As the half neared its conclusion, Jarrett had two chances to try and put two between the teams, she headed at goal but McCarthy saved onto the post for a corner, from the resulting set piece, Youths worked it back into the centre of the area, but Jarrett’s effort was over the bar. Against the run of play Cork equalised, an incredible goal from Shaunagh McCarthy, she crossed on the left wing, her effort looped toward goal and went over Williams into the back of the net, an incredible finish to put the rebels level, did she mean to score that is the question, as the teams went in level at the break. Into the second half, Wexford started again composed but were unable to break the Cork defence, at the other end a header on the line denied Jesse Mendez putting Cork ahead with a header from a corner in the 54th minute. But the hosts were still persistent in their attacking, Freya Mange came close with a rocket of a strike from over 40 yards out, McCarthy getting her fingertips to turn it around the other side of the post for a corner with an incredible save. McCarthy was having a great game between the posts for Cork and made another big save to deny Brophy inside the area, sending it out for a corner, Wexford had another chance but Kylie Murphy headed wide. Ceola Bergin stung the palms of McCarthy while Murphy headed over a corner minutes later, Cork held out however to take a big point on the road.McCarthy Screamer Bags Cork Second Point Of The Season

The teams are out and ready to kick off
Cork remain bottom of the table, just one point this season, no win thus far either as they have nine losses and a draw from 10, it would be a scalp getting a win here this evening but it would put them ahead of Sligo
A win for Wexford would put them fifth level with Galway if they can leave with a plus two goal difference, they would join Galway level on 19 points, but Galway have a better goal difference, if they only have a one goal margin they would leapfrog them on goals scored
Cork welcome back Shaunagh McCarthy and Niamh Cotter to their starting side, Danielle Burke and Heidi Mackin drop out, Burke fails to make the squad this evening, with McCarthy back after missing Saturday's home tie, Hannah Walsh also makes the bench having missed the weekend's tie due to a family bereavement
Both make two changes from Saturday, starting with the home side, Rianna Jarrett and Ceola Bergin who makes her first start come in for Michaela Lawrence and Aine Walsh who drop to the bench
The sunny South-East plays host to the second game these sides will have played against each other since Saturday, a fixture cancelation earlier this season saw this tie moved to mid week, Wexford won Saturday's tie 2-0 at the cross, they will be out for another win this evening, my name is Diarmuid Kearney and I will update the action this evening
