Match Report
Wexford Youths overcame DLR Waves 2-0, with goals from Ciara Rossiter and Michaela Lawrence providing too much firepower for a lacklustre Waves side to handle. In the opening minutes, all the play was in the half of Waves who were pushed back well by a promising Wexford start, but the possession in the opening 15 minutes resulted only in a single chance on goal for Wexford when Rianna Jarrett cushioned a header to the edge of the box for Abbie Brophy, who’s half volley flew wide of the target 11 minutes in. Wexford had the ball in the net after 22 minutes however, but Abbie Brophy was ruled to be offside before she fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the area and the game continued at 0-0. Very little happened for most of the rest of the first half as Waves got more into the game and both sides looked lacking in penetrating football. A couple instances of great defending by Nicole Keogh for Waves and Louise Corrigan for Wexford after the half hour ensured neither defence would be cracked before the half time whistle came. Jarrett looked bright as she looked to build upon her recent goalscoring form but her only chance of the half was a snapshot on the turn from the edge of the box after 35 minutes which was easy work for Waves keeper Eva Badana. The game fizzled out into half time in a 45 minutes which was neither team's finest in an attacking sense. Straight out of the blocks though Wexford nearly found a breakthrough when just seconds after the beginning of the second half, the ball came out to Orlaith Conlon 30 yards from goal who unleashed a thunderous effort that was destined for the top right hand corner were it not for the hand of the outstretched Badana who made a marvellous save to keep her team level. Waves continued to struggle though and their resilience was eventually broken when a quick, slick counter by Wexford led to Rossiter bearing down on goal, and she finished low with a sliding effort to give Wexford a deserved lead. Lawrence had an close range prod at goal saved just moments after coming in on the hour by Badana, who was busy again a couple of minutes later when Jarrett wriggled free down the right and cut it back to Brophy who’s low drive was flicked onto the inside of the post by Waves’ Canadian stopper, after which the defence managed to scramble the ball clear for a corner. In the 82nd minute, a poor touch in the Waves defence and good pressing by Jarrett allowed her to run clear one on one, but her quickly taken effort was pushed wide once again by the impressive Badana. Nevertheless, Waves were punished from the resulting corner when the ball fell kindly to Lawrence in an opportunity similar to the one she had had earlier, though this time she made no mistake from a couple of yards out to put Wexford two goals ahead. Not even 7 minutes of added time was enough for Waves to mount a serious attack on the Wexford goal as the South East based coasted to the win after an excellent second half display to make it 22 games unbeaten against the home side.Wexford Overpower DLR In Belfield

Loose shot from range for Waves by Katie Malone
The Wexford physio has had their work cut out for them today with at least four major delays for Wexford players this second half
7 minutes injury time after a couple of long delays this half, but this game looks wrapped up, Waves just have not posed enough of a threat all game
Long delay as Kylie Murphy has been down injured for some time
Michaela Lawrence doubles Wexford's lead! The ball drops to her feet from a corner, much like the opportunity she had moments after coming, but this time she makes no mistake. Surely Wexford will see this out for the three points now
A poor touch in the Waves defence gives Jarrett a chance to run through one on one and her quickly taken effort is tipped wide by Badana
Waves still struggling to create, Maeve Williams in the Wexford goal hasn't really been called into action at all so far
Wexford are putting the foot to the gas in search of this second goal to kill this tie off, each attack is so much faster and more purposeful than the first half
Brophy is denied wonderfully by Badana as the Canadian tips Brophy's low drive onto the inside of the post and the Waves defenders manage to scramble it clear for a corner
Michaela Lawrence's first involvement is to nearly poked the ball home as it drops kindly to her only 6 yards out, but Badana gets down low fast to make the save
Finnegan fouls Jarrett on the edge of the area and picks up a booking but Rossiter puts the resulting free kick over the bar
Rossiter puts Wexford ahead with a sliding finish after she ran clear from the defence following a slick Wexford counter attack
Yellow for Kane after a late tackle in the middle of the park
And it nearly does just seconds in!!! The ball comes out to Orlaith Conlon who sets herself before unleashing one at the top corner from 30 yards and its only just matched by a magnificent save by Eva Badana who tips it round the post at full stretch
We are Back on for the second half after a first half low on excitement, lets hope that changes in this second period
Freya de Mange heads wide from close range after connecting with a wicked corner, the game is starting to open up now with both sides looking more dangerous
Super defending by Louise Corrigan in her 6 yard box stops the Waves from what surely would be an opening goal as she comes across and clear from the toes of the attacker
Jarrett hits a snapshot on the swivel from the edge of the area but its scuffed and the keeper easily collects
Jarrett squares on inside to an acre of space in front of goal but Nicole Keogh's determined recovery run keeps Wexford at bay
A few too many misplaced passes by both sides has stopped most promising attacks in their tracks, a frustrating opening half hour all round it must be said
Brophy drills the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box, but the flag already up and the game stays at 0-0
Waves have come out of their shell a bit more in the last few minutes, but the game is still very stop start, some good link up play by Jarrett the only real highlight for either side thus far
Strike by Abbie Brophy flies just wide as she hits a volley past the right hand post of Waves after Jarrett's cushioned header. That was the first opening of the game, hopefully a sign of things to come
Very little goalmouth action here but all the play is in the Waves half, Wexford have them penned in and searching, rather tentatively, for their opening
Waves have not beaten Wexford since all the way back in 2015 but would love to take the three points here and help them leapfrog Wexford in the table, let's see if today will be their day.
We are off here in the UCD Bowl as DLR Waves take on Wexford on this lovely Friday afternoon
