Match Report

Derry dominant against 10 man Bohs at Dalymount

Ryan Graydon’s first half goal proved to be the difference as Derry City moved up to second in the table and 10 man Bohs dropped to third.

Bohs were reduced to 10 men in the 14th minute when Grant Horton was shown a straight red for bringing down Michael Duffy. Two minutes later Graydon scored the game’s only goal.

Bohs were poor in the first half but were a different proposition in the second but they couldn’t get an equaliser.

The home side had an early chance but Jonathan Afolabi headed just over the bar in the seventh minute.

In the space of two minutes Bohs were reduced to 10 men and then went a goal down. In the 14th minute Horton was shown a straight red for taking down Duffy on the edge of the box.

From the resulting free that Duffy took, Graydon’s overhead kick was cleared off the line. In the 16th minute Duffy got himself into a good position before crossing the ball for Graydon to fire home from close range.

Derry pressed for a second goal and the home side conceded a number of corners. In the 21st minute Shane McEleney’s header just went over the bar, Ollie O’Neill’s effort got a deflection out for a corner as did Sadou Diallo’s shot in the 34th minute. Bohs didn’t create anything to really trouble Derry keeper Brian Maher in that opening half.

Bohs were a lot more positive in the second half. Flores tried his luck from distance in the 55th minute but Maher was able to gather. The home side played good football but didn’t really test the Candystripes keeper, that was until the 75th minute. Flores’ throw-in met the head of Afolabi at the near post but Maher was alert and tipped his effort over the bar.

Derry substitute Brandon Kavanagh had a chance from a free in the 88th minute but his kick just sailed over the bar. As the clock ticked down Bohs went in search of a goal but Derry were able to hold on.

  • Fantastic evening in Dublin. A packed Dalymount Park ready for this game.

  • A win for the visitors would move them level on points with Bohs.

  • When the two sides met earlier this season in the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium, Bohs won 1-0 - Dean Williams' penalty the difference.

  • Bohs lost to their great rivals Shamrock Rovers last weekend while Derry City had a hard fought 1-0 win away to Drogheda Utd

  • It's first (Bohs) versus third (Derry) in Dalymount Park

  • Good evening and welcome to Final Whistle's coverage of Bohemians v Derry City. I'm Deniese O'Flaherty
