Match Report
Galway march on in packed Eamonn Deacy
Vincent Borden’s 50th minute goal was the difference as Galway made it eleven wins from as many games with a 1-0 victory over Cobh Ramblers at Eamonn Deacey Park.
It was a slow start to the game with both sides happy to engage in the feeling out process early on in front of a sold out Eamonn Deacey Park.
The first shot on target didn’t come until the 17th minute when Lee Stacey did well to save from Killian Brouder’s long range effort from outside the Cobh box.
Conor O’Keefe was the next to try his luck for Galway three minutes later, however his powerful header just glanced over the crossbar as the hosts began to turn the screw.
Not to be outdone, Ramblers looked threatening on the counter attack through Jack Doherty who forced a save from Brendan Clarke after an excellent run down the left wing.
The last chance of the half fell to the hosts when Ed McCarthy found Francely Lomboto who couldn’t quite control the ball to get his shot away.
It was a livelier start to the second half with Doherty testing Clarke with an audacious free kick from the right wing.
Despite this chance, it was Galway who got the breakthrough on 50 minutes through Vincent Borden who slotted home from a well worked corner for his 8th goal of the season.
That goal gave the Tribesmen the impetus to take control of the game and looked far more comfortable in control of possession as they restricted Cobh to a couple of half chances which was further helped by the introduction of captain Conor McCormick on 53 minutes.
Ed McCarthy could have doubled Galway’s lead in the 73rd minute but his long-range effort was saved by Stacey in an impressive performance from the experience shot stopper.
Cobh’s chances were further dented when Doherty was forced off with an injury after a lengthy stoppage ten minutes from time with no diagnosis given.
Shane Keegan rolled the dice with a triple substitution on the stroke of full time as the Ramblers searched for an equaliser with Doherty’s loss keenly felt.
Galway held on however with relative comfort to maintain their 100% record after 11 games so far this season.

0-0 at the break in a game that has yet to catch fire. Cobh will be happier of the two teams.
Dangerous ball from Ed McCarthy into Francey Lomboto but the Galway winger can't quite control the ball to get a shot away.
Jake Heagarty turns the Galway defence inside out but his shot ricochets off the legs of a Galway player and safely into the hands of Clarke. For a team that's only conceded four goals this season, John Caulfield will be dissapointed by how easily they've been opened up at times.
Story of the first half hour is essentially Galway dominating possession but Cobh look dangerous on the break.
Great run down the left wing by Jack Doherty who beats three Galway players but has no support and is forced into taking a shot which is straight at Brendan Clarke.
Conor O'Keefe goes close with a header for Galway but it goes just over the bar.
Good save by Cobh keeper Lee Stacey from Killian Brouder's shot from just outside the box.
Galway's Rob Slevin does really well to cut out a Cobh chance after a really dangerous ball into the box which gave the visitors an overlap. No shots on goal for either side so far.
Both teams in the feeling out process in the opening few minutes with Galway edging it in terms of possession.
Underway.
