Match Report
Thanks to goals from Ryan Rainey and Filip De Silva, Finn Harps have beaten Treaty United 2-0 in Finn Park, their first home win of the season. espite a slow start, the home side grew wonderfully into the match and looked much the better side throughout the contest. The Donegal side showed great game-management to see out the win, just their second of the season, and provided a constant threat to the Treaty United goal. In the First Half, it was the visitors who made a bright start to the game, constantly providing the Finn Harps defence some problems, particularly through Success Edogun. Edogun, playing on the right side of Treaty’s attack, used his pace and power to provide an outlet for the visitors as he posed some problems for Finn Harps left-back Kevin Jordan. Treaty’s best chance of the half came in the 13th minute as Edogun shrugged off a challenge from Jordan to set himself through on-goal with only the keeper to beat. Harps goalkeeper Tim Heimer was up to the challenge, however, and made a spectacular save to deny the visitors an opening goal from close range. It was a slow start for the home-side, who found themselves struggling to get a foothold in the game until the 15th minute. Some excellent passing from Ryan Flood looked to set captain Ryan Rainey through on goal with a dinked ball over the top, but the skipper was unable to connect fully with the ball, with his effort going out for a corner. Flood and Rainey linked up again, this time leading to the opening score of the game. A brilliant in-swinging corner from Flood met the head of an unmarked Rainey, who was able to tuck the ball away into the top-left corner, leaving Treaty United goalkeeper Shane Hallahan no chance. The home side almost doubled their lead just minutes later, as Flood struck a sweet half-volley against the crossbar from 25 yards out. Finn Harps found themselves in total control for the next ten minutes, as they looked to extend their advantage over the visitors. To give credit to Treaty, they held their shape well and resisted the onslaught to regather a foothold in the contest. The speed and power of Edogun allowed Treaty to break quickly up the field, the forward offering a great outlet for his side, yet it was to no avail as Finn Harps were able to quickly reset and shut down any threats. Despite countless corners and free-kicks, the visitors only mustered one real attempt on the Finn Harps goal, leaving Tim Heimer very little to do. Treaty came out after half-time with a point to prove as they looked to grab ann equaliser early in the second-half. A shot from Edogun in the 47th minute epitomised the intensity that Treaty brought to the opening of the second-half. It was an exciting affair for the first 20 minutes of the second-half, both sides not afraid to take a shot, however neither goalkeeper was properly tested. In the 64th minute, Finn Harps all but sealed the victory thanks to a goal from Filip De Silva. The forward reacted quickly after Daniel Okwute’s shot attempt was saved by Hallahann in the Treaty net as the ball sat up nicely for the Brazilian who slotted in comfortably into the bottom right-hand corner. From then, the victory was never in doubt for Finn Harps as they looked to shift their attention to securing a clean sheet. Despite a late surge from Treaty United, Finn Harps showed great game management to see out the victory. Up next for both teams, Finn Harps will travel to Wexford next week, whilst Treaty United will head to Cork to take on Cobh Ramblers.Harps Secure Maiden Home Win Of The Season
