Match Report
Cobh Ramblers enjoyed a second 4-1 victory of the week with a comfortable victory over Finn Harps this evening in St. Colman’s Park. Building on their win over Kerry last Monday it was the Donegal side who felt the wrath of Shane Keegan’s side who consolidate into third place in the table with tonight’s win giving the locals a real shout of securing a playoff spot. It was a hectic start to proceedings with half chances at both ends very early on but the first real effort came on four minutes when Charlie Lyons hit a strike but Keith Cowan managed a block which turned the effort over the bar. There was no such reprieve for the visitors three minutes later when a great move down the right hand side and a low centre from Conor Drinan gave James O’Leary a straight forward close range finish past the advancing Heimer to give the home side the lead. Both keepers showed why they have been so important to both teams with Lee Steacy producing a strong save from a Keith Cowen volley. Moments later it’s Heimer at the other end who gathers a Breandan Frahill header under pressure at the feet of a host of players from both sides. Having enjoyed the lions share of possession and territory Harps found themselves a further goal behind just before the half hour mark when Liam Kerwick found the top corner after being put through by an inch perfect Wilson Wawaru ball. The youngster had missed a decent chance just moments earlier but this time around he made no mistake. Harps would pull one back before the break when Noe Baba got on the end of header down from Daithi McCallion. Facing away from goal the Mayo man struck the ball on the turn to find the bar post and caught everyone out as the ball found the inside of the far post to reduce the deficit to a single score. Just approaching the hour mark Cobh had restored their two goal lead as a whipped ball was met by the head of Conor Drinan. His effort produced a phenomenal save from Heiman but the German’s parry landed in front of goal and Charlie Lyons nudged it home to send the home supporters wild. Kerwick, who was impressive throughout the evening, wasn’t done though and he popped up at the end of a move where Finn Harps struggled to get the ball clear. The ball bounced up from a challenge and Kerwick was on hand to bury the ball past Heimer and sew up the victory for the home side with his second goal of the game. Jason Abbott almost made it five in the closing stages as his powerful effort was just over the Harps bar. Kerwick was once again central to the attack as he held the ball up faced by debutant Jamie McKinney to play the ball into the path of Abbott. No Save Harbour for Harps in Cobh

Jason Abbott almost hits the goal of the game as he is fed the ball from Liam Kerwick on the edge of the box and his effort goes just over the bar.
Harps have made three changes to complete their changes. Dave Rogers appears to have accepted that tonight is not going to be their night as he gives Max Johnson and James McKinney their first taste of competitive senior action.
GOAL: Liam Kerwick has applied the finish to a set piece from the home side as Harps look bereft of ideas and fight. A throw in on the far side of the pitch is let bounce around the box before it's met by Kerwick who forces the ball home.
Conor Drinan's header forces an unbelievable save from Heimer but the German's parry falls to the waiting Charlie Lyons who touches home with his head into the back of the net to put Cobh 3-1 ahead.
A poor clearing header from Frahill arrives at the feet of Baba who can't keep his effort on target as it gets deflected over the bar for a corner.
Big moment for Harps as Wawaru has a great opportunity, a phenomenal save from the German keeper keeps the ball out and Frahill can't get enough power on his header and Harps get the ball cleared.
Very optimistic bicycle kick attempt from Wawaru after Harps fail to clear a crossed ball. Never bothering Heimer though.
We are back underway for what promises to be a decent 45 minutes of action.
Harps have pulled one back through Noe Baba as Daithi McCallion heads a ball back across the box and the Mayo man finishes with a round house effort past Steacy in the Cobh net.
A promising move from Cobh comes to nothing as they contrive to waste the opportunity. Kerwick at the end but the pass have forced him too far wide to give him a decent chance of hitting the target.
A minute later, he makes no mistake. A lovely ball from Wawaru sends Kerwick in on goal and he makes no mistake finding the top corner of the Finn Harps net to send the home side two goals up.
Liam Kerwick creates a lovely opportunity for himself, a quick move to receive a Jason Abbott freekick sees the youngster turn and have a free shot at goal. Heimer saves from close range.
Tiernan O'Brien gets his name taken for the first yellow card of the evening for a late challenge on Wilson Wawaru
Steacy again to the rescue as Noe Baba finds himself in plenty of space, his low effort forces the keeper to be at full stretch to keep his goal intact. The parried save is far enough away from the oncoming forward to allow the defence to clear.
Caomhin Porter gets a powerful effort on goal from distance but Steacy is equal to it and gathers comfortably.
This time its the Harps keeper who pulls of a decent save gathering a Frahill header at the feet of a few attackers.
Keith Cowan almost draws the visitors level when a poor Seamus Keogh freekick isn't dealt with by the defence and it takes a great save from Lee Steacy to keep the ball out of the net from a lovely volley from the big centre half.
And we have a lead goal. James O'Leary tucks the ball past Heimer from close range at the end of a great low cross from Drinan wide on the left hand side.
Lyons almost opens the scoring a half cleared throw in falls to Lyons who's volley is goalward bound before Keith Cowan deflects it over the bar for a corner.
It's a hectic start in St. Colman's Park as both sides have enjoyed some nice moves.
