Historic night for Treaty United as Curran hattrick helps cruise past UCD
Enda Curran’s superb hat-trick was just what was ordered for Treaty United as they progressed to the last four of the FAI Cup.
It represents a first FAI Cup semi-final for the new entity, who lost out to UCD in they play-offs last season.
Curran’s treble, and a superb display from Willie Armshaw helped the Limerick side to a rather easy win. The consolation strike from Harry O’Connor perhaps flattered a really poor UCD side.
The Students will now turn to the relegation battle, having jumped above Finn Harps last Friday with a shock win over Dundalk. They never got near those levels and were on the back foot from the first minute.
The hosts struck the front a penalty. Enda Curran powering to the net after Willie Armshaw was tripped by Evan Osam just inside the area.
Indeed, Tipperary native Armshaw had gone close in the third minute only for keeper Kian Moore to deny him, after racing through the middle.
Curran was on hand to double the lead four minutes before the half-time whistle. UCD looked in control of the situation but a poor mistake from Sam Todd set Curran free. Todd played the ball back, over his own defence with the striker racing clear to finish for a huge 2-0 lead.
Curran found his third on 50 minutes. The hosts looked to kill the tie and showed the same attacking intent as in the first half. This was rewarded when Curran broke onto a loose ball from Marc Ludden’s long throw. The left-footed strike was a thing of beauty.
Andy Myler a double change for UCD and their best spell of the evening soon arrived but the damage had been well done. Sam Todd hit the bar with a headed effort. Earlier Sean Brennan had been denied by Conor Winn.
Stephen Christopher squared for Armshaw who had an easy finish to add to his memorable moments for Treaty.
Sub Harry O’Connor netted a late consolation, as UCD flooded the penalty area.
History for Treaty who’ll be praying for another home tie, as they’ve had in two of their three cup outings so far.

Five added as the home support continue to chant, Allez, allez, allez!
Goal for UCD, as sub Harry O'Connor finishes from near the penalty spot, to make it 4-1.
A superb showing by Armshaw and he gets an easy goal. Stephen Christopher bursts through the middle and Willie finishes low to the empty ned.
Treaty back on the front foot after weathering a UCD storm. Success Edogun is causing some problems.
Off the bar! A great chance for UCD as Todd heads off the bar, but sees the ball go over.
Hat-trick! Enda Curran pounces on a loose ball and thunders the ball to the net. A long-throw from Marc Ludden causes all sorts of problems and the striker smashes it home for 3-0.
Second half underway. Treaty starting on the front foot once again.
Enda Curran doubles the lead. He races clear after Sam Todd played the ball poorly back towards his own goal. Curran still had work to do but moved onto his right and finished low beyond Moore. Treaty in dreamland.
Curran, with a diving header, sends an effort well over. He connected well with the right wing cross.
Enda Curran opens the scoring from the spot. Willie Armshaw is upended by Evan Osam before the striker dispatches to the net for 1-0. Great start by the Limerick side.
Thomas Lonergan with the first shot for the visitors and it is saved, low, by Conor Winn. The number 13 gathers at the second attempt.

Dean George gets a head to a Marc Ludden cross, good play from the hosts. The header was far too routine to worry Moore. UCD defiantly second best so far.
Willie Armshaw looks to be the difference again. He gets in on the byline but his cross is well dealt with. The Tipperary native exciting the home support in typical fashion.
UCD win their first corner of the evening which comes to nothing.
Fantastic home support here this evening. Easily the largest of the season
Bright start for Treaty and they could be a goal up. Willie Armshaw streaks through the middle and sees a shot saved by the advancing Kian Moore. Good work by the Treaty winger but better work by the UCD stopper.
The sides are in the tunnel ahead of this one. Treaty United v UCD for a place in the last four of the FAI Cup. The pitch is looking superb, stay tuned for hopefully a fantastic evening of football.
