St Pats To Meet Bohs In FAI Cup Final
Goals in each half from Mark Doyle and substitute Conor Carty helped St. Patrick’s Athletic overcome a spirited Cork City side to book their place in the Sports Direct FAI Cup Final.
Doyle opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Both sides had chances after that but the next goal didn’t come until the 83rd minute when the Inchicore side grabbed their second of the game to kill off City’s challenge.
The first chance of the game fell to Pat’s in the ninth minute but Kian Leavy’s effort was cleared off the line by Josh Honohan.
Minutes later and the visitors broke the deadlock; Ryan McLaughlin played a perfect cross into the box and Doyle was there to finish to the net.
The home side worked hard to get back into the game. They had dominant spells but just couldn’t find the back of the net. In the 15th minute Ruairi Keating hit a fine strike that just went wide. Aaron Bolger played a great ball into him in the 29th minute but he didn’t connect properly with it. Tommy Lonergan had to clear the ball off the line minutes later.
Keating also came close again to drawing his side level as the home side continued to press.
Both sides had half chances in the opening exchanges of the second half. Jake Mulraney blasted the ball over the bar while down the other end Ben Worman had a shot but it was easy for Dean Lyness.
In the 53rd minute a fine cross from Leavy was headed over by Tommy Lonergan. The game then petered out for a few minutes. Both sides emptied their bench and City piled on the pressure as Pat’s had to re-shuffle their defence.
For all their play and chances they created, City didn’t force Pat’s netminder Lyness into making any real save of note.
The second goal came in the 83rd minute and it was two substitutes that played their part in the goal. Jason McClelland’s shot was parried by City keeper Ollie Byrne, Carty curled his foot around the loose ball to hit an excellent shot to the net.
It’s now Bohs v Pat’s in the final - a repeat of the 2021 decider which Pat’s won.

Bohs await the winners in the final. Declan Devine's side defeated Galway Utd 1-0 yesterday at Eamonn Deacy Park. Dylan Connolly's goal just before half-time proved to be the difference.
