Treaty sail through to next round past non league Usher Celtic
Treaty United secured safe passage into the second round of the Extra.ie FAI Cup with a 5-0 victory over Dublin outfit Usher Celtic.
Usher, who ply their trade in the Leinster Senior League were effectively starting their season. They’d qualified for the competition by winning a preliminary round three months ago, on the back of reaching the FAI Junior Cup final in 2020. The delay in playing in the competition meant that Usher had moved to the LSL.
The hosts were dominant in the second half as their fitness told, and United notched four second half goals.
Tipperary native Sean Guerins had the side 1-0 up at the half, heading home after six minutes. Usher had half chances and a decent opening for Gareth Kilkenny on 21, but he send a shot wayward.
Early in the second half, Treaty doubled the lead, with Dean George adding to his growing tally. He netted from close range before adding a second in similar fashion minutes later. He is behind Enda Curran in the Treaty United in the scoring charts and Curran added to his own tally soon after coming on.
The former Galway frontman blasted home a penalty with 20 minutes remaining. In truth, Treaty were unlucky not to add a great deal more but had to settle for a fifth.
Another sub, Success Edogun, who signed this month from Athlone, was on hand to open his United tally. His pace looks terrifying, but he was able to show guile and class as he drilled home from just outside the area in the final moments of stoppage time.
Wesley Doyle’s Usher were out of their fitness-depth in the second half, with this their first competitive game since May. They’ll be hopeful of a big season following promotion to the top flight of the Leinster Senior League.
It is a first win in the competition for Treaty who’ve had a good July following some challenging results in both May and June. Tommy Barrett will be hopeful of a favourable draw in the next round.
