Match Report
Harps continue unbeaten start
When the clock ticked into injury time it looked like Finn Harps would have to settle for a disappointing point against a dogged Waterford outfit. However, their captain David Webster had other ideas at Finn Park.
The Harps skipper gathered a corner from Barry McNamee and smashed the ball past a helpless Brian Murphy in the Waterford goals to send the dozen or so home supporters peering over the fence into raptures.
In truth, it was no more than the hosts deserved as despite struggling to create many chances, controlled the game for long periods would have felt hard done by if they had come away from this one with anything less than three points.
While the hosts didn’t quite have a monopoly on possession in the opening stages, even the most biased Waterford fan would have had to admit that the North-West outfit was the better side in the early on.
Waterford were lucky not to concede a penalty in the ninth minute after a high foot on Webster in the box but the incident was waved away by match referee John Mc Loughlin.
The hosts continued to join long spells of possession, frequently peppering the Blues box with corner kicks but lacked the ingenuity to manufacture any clear-cut chances. In the 34th minute were made pay for not converting their possession into goals.
A Jamie Mascoll free-kick from way out on the Finn Harps right-hand side was met by the head of John Martin, whose bullet header beat Mark Anthony Mc Ginley to give Kevin Sheedy’s men the opening goal of the game against the run of play.
However, Ollie Horgan’s men weren’t behind for long. Adam Foley picked up a pass from Barry McNamee and smashed it past a helpless Brian Murphy to draw his side level and in doing so continued his amazing start to the season with his fourth goal in as many matches.
McNamee found time to put a dangerous ball into the Waterford box before the break but none of his teammates were able to meet it and the sides remained level at the break.
The second half was a cagier affair with fewer chances. Although former Ireland international Daryl Murphy, who came on as a sub midway during the second half should have equalised but could only aim a free header at a grateful McGinley in the Finn Harps goals.
Seymore and Coyle both had chances to grab the headlines for themselves but the honours went to Webster right at the death.

That goal has come somewhat against the run of play as although Finn Harps haven't created any clear chances they certainly have enjoyed the lions share of possesion.
