Match Report

Solid Drogs super against Saints

Drogheda’s solid performance confirmed St. Pat’s second loss of the season with a 3-1 win; courtesy of goals from Dane Massey, Mark Doyle and Jordan Adeyemo in the Premier Division at United Park tonight.

Substitute Nahum Malvin-Lambert scored for the Saints, eight minutes from time, but Adeyemo closed the game delivering a third goal for the hosts moments after.

Pats failed to bring the best reaction into the fixture, after last week’s stumble against rivals Shamrock Rovers, and face now the possibility of finishing the round in the last place on the podium.

Tim Clancy’s boys played out a perfect plan, holding the lead throughout the second 45 minutes.

The opening to this game clearly showed it would not be an easy one for the Dublin side. They were coming with initiative, but found a very well-organised opponent pressing high up the pitch.

There were plenty of battles in the middle throughout the first half an hour, but no real threatens on either goal transpired, especially the one watched by David Odumosu; as he made the first save shortly before the break.

Jamie Lennon got the third yellow card dished out on the night, with just 21 minutes on the clock, and from the resulting freekick, Dane Massey put Drogheda ahead with a superb execution striking it into the top corner.

Stephen O’Donnell’s army was yet to find the key to break the opponents locker and saw the scenario get even worse two minutes from the break; as Mark Doyle smashed it into the same top bin.

The Dublin club emerged much more aggressive from the dressing room after a disappointing performance during the first 45 minutes. Matty Smith found himself face-to-face with Odumosu but lost both his way and the opportunity

Pats went all-in with all their man inside the hosts half pushing them to work hard to grab the three points. Billy King forced Odumosu to a fantastic safe denning him a great goal from long-range.

O’Donnell changed the formation going for a three-man defensive line and bringing in Melvin-Lambert, and the Englishman just needed three minutes in the game to shake the foundations with a finish inside Drogs’ box.

There was hope for them, but not for long; as Jordan Adeyemo grabbed the super-sub role six minutes later by sending in a loose ball inside Vitezslav Jaros’ box.
