Huge appeals for a penalty as James Akintunde goes down in the box and was through on goal after brilliantly skinning through the Longford defence. Looked a stonewall penalty to me but the referee says no.

Brilliant save by Kelly to deny Parkhouse's header from a Patching cross that looked destined to find the corner of the net but a top drawer save keeps the scores level.

The hosts have made a dominant start to this second half and are firmly knocking on the door for the opener.

Patching has a shot from distance that forces a decent stop from Kelly and the rebound is squandered by Parkhouse whose header doesn't quite connect and Longford survive.

The last time the two teams faced off was on the opening day of the season, with Longford running out 2-0 winner’s courtesy of goals from Grimes and Joe Gorman.

They come into this match off the back of a 2-all draw at home to Dundalk, in which they threw away three priceless points by conceding a late equaliser from Chris Shields. The newly promoted side lie second from bottom in ninth position and are only above bottom club Waterford on goal difference.

Dylan Grimes is their top goal scorer with three goals and will likely continue to be Longford’s most potent attacking threat.

Struggling Longford have picked up just six points from a maximum 27 so far this season and have the worst defence in the division, conceding 15 goals already this term.

This season, Cameron McJannett, despite being a centre back, has been the Candystripes best attacking outlet, as the defender has managed to score five goals in just nine appearances.

Under new manager Ruaidhri Higgins, City have picked up just eight points from nine games so far this season, winning just once. They come into this match off the back of a 2-1 home defeat to Finn Harps, in which Adam Foley’s goal 90 seconds from time broke their passionate supporters’ hearts.

Both sides will be desperate for a win after poor starts to the season, putting each club at risk of relegation.
