Match Report

Bohs fire five past Drogheda

Bohemians ran riot tonight at Dalymount Park to move one point behind their opponents Drogheda United.

Once the Dublin side took the lead the floodgates opened and it was somewhat of a Premier Division reality check for the visitors.

The leagues top scorer Georgie Kelly had the Gypsies two up at the break with the help of Ross Tierney’s creativity.

In the second half Liam Burt made it three, before Kelly got his hat-trick and then fourth goal to make it 5-0 to Bohs. It could have been an even bigger margin if it wasn’t for some excellent goalkeeping by Drogheda’s David Odumosu.

This game was always going to be an opportunity for the hosts to turn their season around, and you’d have to say beating the fourth placed team in the fashion they did should certainly help.

For Tim Clancy however, this evening may be his first bitter pill to swallow as his Drogs were outclassed in every department.

It will be interesting to see how they respond next time out in a huge game against Dundalk, especially considering the confidence they had heading into tonight’s fixture.

Georgie Kelly was the man of the moment at Dalymount. He was the top scorer heading in, and left with the same accolade only with four extra goals. They all were from the handbook of a complete number nine.

The visitors started respectively until the ninth minute when a creative pass from Ross Tierney found Kelly for his first. Tierney continued to cause problems and Kelly scored again in the 32nd minute leaving Bohs two up at the interval. Drogheda looked increasingly sloppy as the game went on, Dane Massey perhaps the main culprit.

Straight into the second half Liam Burt finished well to make it three. Drogheda looked deflated in the second half after an ineffective formation change. Kelly impressively got his hat-trick after 53 minutes and then fourth after 71 minutes to finish off the truly beaten claret and blue.
