Match Report
Keating King in Galway win
Ruairi Keating's first half strike was enough to set Galway on their way to take all three points back West, and a long journey to St. Colman's Park made worthwhile.
A missed penalty from Keating in the second half was left unpunished by the home side as they failed to find the back of the Galway net for a third time this season.
Cobh came out of the blocks red hot as they created quite a few chances early on. Their pressing and intensity was brilliant but they were still shy getting chances on target,
A free after eight minutes from 18 yards out was blazed over the bar, their best effort up to that point.
After this Galway started to get a hold of the match having their own half chances from set plays and as always Killian Brouder’s long throw-ins caused all sorts of havoc.
Galway broke the deadlock from a corner in the 26th minute a Conor McCormack in-swinging corner was poorly collected by Cobh keeper Corey Chambers who spilled the ball and Ruairi Keating latched onto the spill volleying home from short range giving United the important first goal.
The home side battled hard after they conceded putting United on the back foot but again failing to create any major opportunities or shots on target, this saw the sides go in at the break 1-0
The Tribesmen game out on top form for the second half early opportunities to increase their lead weren't taken and the slender lead kept Cobh's hopes alive.
United kept getting in behind the home side's defence in the second half and this soft defending showed as Ramblers gave away a penalty in the 64th minute, Keating who was in great form stepped up but blazed the ball over the bar it remained 1-0.
Cobh never pushed on in the second half and with a small margin it was surprising to see such little goal attempts from the Cork side.
This poor play led to frustrations with two late red cards, Sub Regix Madika receiving two yellows after his short 25 minute spell on the pitch and Nathan O’Connell receiving his marching orders after 95 minutes for a lash out on a Galway player seemingly pure frustration.
Galway missed two great chances late on to extend their lead Shane Doherty and Padraic Cunningham missing chances but the one goal was enough to bring all three points back West.
