Match Report
Bray and Cork end scoreless
Both sides will rue missed chances this evening as Bray were held to a goalless draw against Cork City at the Carlisle Grounds in the League of Ireland First Division.
Brian Maher made a couple of fantastic first half saves to deny The Rebel Army from taking all three points.
It was a slow start to the affair with both sides struggling to find that final killer pass inside the opposition half during the early stages. The best chances of the half did fall to the visitors who looked destined to take the lead through talisman Cian Murphy after he latched on to a through ball over the Bray defence. Maher was off his line quickly and the Irish U21 number one made a fantastic reflex stop with his legs to deny Murphy.
Moments later Aaron Bolger released Cian Balgary down the left flank. Balgary cut inside onto his right foot and hit a powerful shot towards the bottom corner. Maher again saved well and tipped the ball around the post for a City corner.
Cork started the second period the brighter of the two sides again and had a chance to take the lead just after the hour mark through Cian Coleman. Honohan’s long throw into the Bray area caused Gary Cronin’s side some trouble and when they failed to clear their lines the ball fell into the path of Cork skipper Coleman. Sadly for him, his effort fired just wide past the Bray net to keep the scores level.
Bray looked most dangerous when they hit Colin Healy’s side on the counter attack and their best chance of the night came from this. Brandon Kavanagh’s inch perfect, left footed cross looked to find Gary Shaw, but the Bray striker miss timed his diving header and failed to get any connection on the cross.
The hosts came close late on through substitute Sam Verdon who was only on the pitch a matter of moments. Verdon seemed to have an eternity over the ball on the edge of the Cork area but his shot went inches past the post and wide.
Just as it looked like the referee would blow for full time, Dylan McGlade’s cross found Barry Coffey on the edge of the six yard box but he couldn’t keep his header down and the two sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.
