Match Report
O’Farrell bags Bray winner in Cobh
Cobh Ramblers miserable season continued as they were beaten 2-1 at home to play off pushing Bray Wanderers.
The visitors took the lead through Ryan Graydon but after Daniel Jones’ red card, Jason Abbott put the hosts level from the penalty spot.
But Richie O’Farrell scored the winner from close range to make it five straight defeats for Darren Murphy’s side.
Ramblers started the match the better of the two sides and went close early on because of frontline pressure.
Bray’s defence was dispossessed, and Luke Kennedy put a ball across the face of goal, but Ian Turner couldn’t connect due to a vital interception by Andrew Quinn.
A largely uneventful first half was followed by an exciting and frenetic second.
Five minutes into the second stanza and Wanderers took the lead through Graydon after being picked out by a great ball by Mark Byrne.
A succession of headers seemed to have put through Regix Madika and it appeared his shot went into the grateful arms of Brian Maher.
However, the linesman gave a penalty after it was deemed that Madika was brought down before his shot by Daniel Jones, who was red carded.
Abbott stepped up to take the penalty and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to level the scores.
But just three minutes later, Wanderers were back in front through O’Farrell’s goal from close range after being picked out by a ball across the face of goal.
The Ramblers pushed for an equaliser but failed to create anything of note in the late stages.
Next up for them is another home game, this time against Galway United next Friday at 7:45pm.
Gary Cronin will be delighted to have got back to winning ways after suffering back-to-back defeats and his side are in action next Friday at 7:30pm, at home to Cork City.
