Match Report

Wexford Youths in 7th heaven

A set of hat tricks for Wexford’s Kylie Murphy and Ellen Molloy along with an Aoibheann Clancy penalty, saw the Youth's put seven past Bohemians as the WFAI Cup finalists sent out a signal of the intent ahead of the cup final.

While all seven goals were impressive, Molloy’s strike to seal her hat trick was the pick of the bunch as the Irish international hit an excellent effort to beat Maguire from distance. In what was a difficult evening for the visiting Dublin side with Boh’s manager Sean Byrne seeing red as he let his frustration get the better of him as the match reached its conclusion.

The first half was all about Kylie Murphy as she put her side right in control with a twenty-four-minute hat trick. The game was only five minutes old when the Wexford striker latched onto a pass from Ellen Molloy and slotted it calmly under Courtney Maguire. The second was a combination of quick thinking with a defensive lapse as a slack pass back to Ciara Rossiter saw the winger send the ball into Murphy as she added the clinical finish.

The hattrick was completed within the opening quarter of the contest as Murphy picked up the ball from a cross from Doherty and had the easiest of jobs to tap it home from close range.

After the interval, it was Ellen Molloy's turn to get on the goalscoring act as she netted a hattrick of her own. Isobel Finnegan mistimed her header back to Maguire with Molloy on hand to latch onto the loose ball and slot home her first goal.

Molly's second had a bit of work to it as her first shot on goal was blocked, however, she applied the finish with her instant follow-up. Molly's third goal of the evening was the pick of the bunch as she got the ball on the edge of the area and took aim with an excellent high curling effort that left Maguire with no chance.

Sean Byrne was not on the sideline to see that goal as the Bohemians manager saw red. It had been a tense time on the touchline with repeated warnings in the first half as it appeared to have reached a boiling point with him being asked to depart the touchline.

Wexford added a seventh late on as AnneMarie Byrne took down Emma Walker in the area, the referee pointed to the spot with Wexford added another goal to the scoreline courtesy of Aoibheann Clancy.

A sign of intent as Wexford heads towards the Cup Final, this is the second time Bohemians have conceded seven against Wexford this year.

A team that missed Sophie Watters for leadership in this contest, the shining light on a bad day for Bohs was Abbi Brophy who was impressive throughout.
