Match Report
Peamount put a Cork in their title expectations
An eight star performance by Peamount United, saw them claim all three points in tonight’s meeting, in the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League, as they were 8-1 winners over Cork.
The Dubliners had five on the scoreboard in the opening 25 minutes, an early impressive display in front of goal saw Stephanie Roche, Tiegan Ruddy, Aine O’Gorman, Dora Gorman all find the net, while Kristen Sample in the Cork goal was at fault for an own goal.
Ruddy added a second before the break, while Sadhbh Doyle and Becky Watkins got their names on the scoresheet. Laura Shine pulling one back for the visitors.
It was another clinical performance by the would be champions, victory next weekend will see them complete a three in a row of league titles, they fully deserved the victory tonight, as Cork were completely outclassed in all areas.
Stephanie Roche put Peamount 1-0 ahead inside six minutes, Aine O'Gorman had a shot saved, with Roche on hand to finish into an empty net from close range. Tiegan Ruddy made it 2-0 just minutes later, converting from the penalty spot, despite the keeper diving the right way she failed to keep it out.
Aine O’Gorman had the result in their favour by the 11th minute, the veteran making her mark on the tie with a fantastic finish, worry for The Peas however as O'Gorman, came off with an injury shortly after the goal as Rebecca Watkins came on in her place.
It got worse for Cork on the 20 minute mark, a horrible mistake by Kristen Sample in the Cork goal, gifted the Greenogue outfit a fourth, with Dora Gorman adding the fifth two minutes later, with a header from a corner.
The Rebels failed to threaten in the opening half, as Ruddy got her second to the evening, as her goal bound shot took a deflection and went in to make it 6-0, a result they took to the break.
Peamount kept the pressure going into the second half, less than ten minutes after the restart, Sadhbh Doyle made it 7-0 with a lovely lofted finish over the goalkeeper.
Chances were coming at both ends but the home side remained on top, with their first major chance of the evening, Laura Shine got one back for Cork with a lovely finish in the 67th minute, the first goal the hosts have conceded in over 400 minutes of football.
Becky Watkins added the final goal in the 77th minute, the substitute scoring a fantastic solo effort, making it 31 goals scored in their last six games.
