Match Report

Drogheda deliver big against Bohs

Drogheda United produced a shock as they beat top four chasing Bohemians 3-1 at 'Head In the Game' Park to boost their survival bid.

Mark Doyle put the home side in front, dispatching a controversial penalty before their lead was extended ten minutes later through new signing Joe Redmond’s goal.

Jordan Adeyemo made it three after he dispatched a brilliant one two with Ross Tierney with a precise finish.

Bohemians hit back through second half goals from Liam Burt and Georgie Kelly, but the hosts held on.

The newly promoted side started well and Adeyemo won a penalty after he was played through on goal and was taken out by Bohs keeper James Talbot.

But replays showed that the foul was outside of the box but despite the controversy Doyle put the home team in front from the spot.

Ten minutes later, a fantastic delivery from Ronan Murray’s corner was volleyed into the net by new signing Redmond for his dream debut goal.

Drogheda supporters couldn’t believe what they were witnessing when the underdogs went further in front through the impressive Adeyemo’s precise finish.

Bohemians got back into the game in the second half through an unbelievable goal from Burt, who spotted Jordan Odumosu off his line and lobbed the keeper from just past the halfway line.

Odumosu proved to be the hero for the home side as he denied Dawson Devoy’s bullet strike that looked destined for the top corner.

Drogheda were furious they weren’t awarded a penalty when Adeyemo looked to have been pushed in the back, but referee Graham Kelly waved away the protests.

Bohemians were awarded a penalty themselves when the impressive substitute Burt was fouled by James Browne.

The league’s top goal scorer Kelly stepped up and placed the ball into the centre of the net to set up a grandstand finish.

Odomusu’s heroics resulted in United holding on for three points as he somehow denied Kelly from point blank range, just three yards out.
