Avenir Sports All-Island Cup Roundup

In the first weekend of the inaugural All-Island Cup, Shamrock Rovers overcame Peamount at Tallaght Stadium, Linfield became the only northern team not to pick up a result against a Southern Team this weekend.

Glentoran 1-1 Wexford Youths, Blanchflower Stadium

Kerry Beattie scored the first-ever goal in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup in the 19th minute for Glentoran as the Belfast-based side played out a 1-1 draw with Wexford Youths in Blanchflower Stadium.

Ciara Rossiter equalised for the Youths in the 37th minute to seal a point for both sides in Group B of the inaugural tournament.

Sligo Rovers 1-3 Bohemians, Showgrounds

Bohemians ran out comfortable 3-1 winners against Sligo Rovers in the Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon.

Aoife Robinson opened the scoring for the Gypsies when her shot came off the post, hit goalkeeper Bonnie McKiernon on the back, and fortuitously fell to the forward, who duly tapped it in.

The second goal was a calamitous back pass that bounced past the helpless McKiernon and into the net, while Niamh Prior tucked away the third near the hour mark.

Casey Howe scored a late consolation from the spot for the home side, but it is Bohs who sit top of the table in Group C of the Avenir Sports All-island Cup and host Cliftonville next weekend.

Cork City 2-1 DLR Waves, Fermoy FC

Cork City beat DLR Waves 2-1 in Fermoy this afternoon in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup, thanks to goals from Chloe Atkinson and Keira Sena.

The Rebels were good value for their win despite Kate Mooney’s second-half penalty threatening a comeback for the Waves.

Shamrock Rovers 2-1 Peamount United, Tallaght Stadium

Shamrocks Rovers beat Peamount United 2-1 in Tallaght Stadium in their opening game in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup this afternoon.

The two sides faced each other last weekend in the Women’s League of Ireland Premier Division with United taking the three points after a later Sadhbh Doyle winner.

Jamie Thompson opened the scoring for the Hoops from the penalty spot midway through the second half before Lauren Kelly doubled their lead eight minutes later.

Chloe Molony scored an injury-time consolation goal for the Peas from close range after the ball dropped to her from a corner.

Cliftonville 2-1 Sion Swifts, Solitude

Cliftonville defeated Sion Swifts 2-1 at the Solitude Stadium in Belfast in their opening game in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup today.

Zoe McGlynn opened the scoring for the Strabane-based side before Fionnula Morgan equalised for the Reds.

Danielle Maxwell sealed the win and took home the three points for Cliftonville with her 87th-minute winner.

Crusaders 3-2 Treaty United, Seaview

Crusaders beat Treaty United 3-2 at Seaview in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup this afternoon.

Amy McGivern put the home side into an early lead before Faith Johnston doubled the score in the 30th minute.

Treaty rang in the changes at the start of the second half, however, Caitlyn Hamilton made it 3-0 for the Crues.

Cara Griffin pulled one back for the Limerick-Based side with around 25 minutes to go, before making the scoreline respectable with her second at the end of normal time.

Linfield 0-1 Galway United, Midgley Park

Jenna Slattery’s fourth-minute goal sealed the three points for Galway United in their 1-0 win over Linfield at Midgley Park this evening.

The Tribeswomen kicked-off their Avenir Sports All-Island campaign with a good win against the Blues and will look to make it two wins from two when they take on Athlone Town in Group A next week.
