Match Report
Hannah Saidi was summoned from the bench and the 15 year old poked him the winner in the 82nd minute as Treaty United secured their first win of the 2023 season. It was no more than they deserved, they may have been frustrated at the break to have been behind after having a fair string of good chances, they were knocking on the door but Emma Doherty had the final say as she netted before the break to put Sligo ahead. Into the second and Treaty looked again good in attack, Cara Griffin scored their first goal of the season just after the hour mark to major scenes of celebration, before Saidi got enough to poke home a free kick before the end of normal time. Sligo would have the opening chance as Lauren Boles would strike for goal but it went wide of the mark, Treaty had a fair share of possession but were unable to threaten, the Limerick side were creating chances but nothing that left Amy Mahon struggling in net. Emma Hansberry had a free kick deflected out for a corner as Sligo were pressing again well but Orna O'Dowd failed in the follow up and again the ball went wide of Anne-Marie Ulliac's net. While Treaty failed to converted in the opening half, a rocket from Emma Doherty saw her strike from 25 yards beat Ulliac and give the hosts the lead just two minutes from the break, a real goal against the run of play taking a deflection it helped Sligo ahead at the interval. As the second half kicked off again Sligo were showing control, Leah Kelly was looking good and was almost everywhere for Sligo as they tried to link up an attack but just could not find the spark to grab an early second. Just after the hour mark we saw a rare sight this season as Treaty United had the ball in the Sligo net, Cara Griffin dispossessed O'Dowd and raced in for a one on one with Mahon, she lofted the ball over the keepers head to equalise. The hosts looked to reply straight away as Keri Loughrey and Fiona Doherty both linked up well before the attack resulted in a corner, at the other end Mahon was needed to save from close range to keep it at 1-1. Casey Howe tried to beat Ulliac but the effort from over 30 yards out was never going to trouble her, Loughrey almost got them level but the Canadian net minder was having a great game for the Shannonsiders. The winner would come eight minutes from time, Claire Winter who did have a great game for Treaty, had a host of chances to score in the opening half, she delivered the free kick she delivered the free kick that Saidi got a touch on to fire home from close range, big celebrations on her debut but also Treaty taking the lead for the first time this season. It was constant pressure from Sligo late on, Sarah Kiernan has a shot saved while in added time Howe fired a free into the are but Treaty were happy to see it trickle wide, with just seconds left and Sligo had the ball in the Treaty net but the flag was up for offside, much to the delight of Treaty as they celebrated a huge win for themSaidi Has Dream Debut To Give Treaty First Win
