Peas Extend Winning Run To Four Games After Dalymount Double
Peamount retain their league lead thanks to goals from Karen Duggan and Kate Mooney as The Peas beat Bohemians 2-0 at Dalymount.
Peamount were in control from the opening whistle, an inspired first-half performance from Rachael Kelly denying goals for Carla McManus and Becky Watkins.
The deadlock was eventually broken when Ciara Maher clipped Tara O’Hanlon in the box after a fantastic run, Karen Duggan burying the resulting penalty in ice-cold fashion. Kate Mooney secured the win for her side as she slotted home a fantastic through ball from Sadbh Doyle.
Mooney went close twice in the opening twenty minutes-her header beating Rachael Kelly in goal before being cleared by Lynn Craven, later a lob that again cleared Kelly but eventually petered out of pace and rolled wide of the goal.
Bohs initially struggled to play out of what was an unrelenting Peamount press but the hosts eventually grew into the game. The Gypsies could have been accused of being too conservative once they got into their run of play-Sarah Rowe and Erica Burke routinely the only two Bohs players venturing into Peamount’s box.
The pendulum swung once again as The Peas marauded into Bohs half, rejecting the hesitancy that had characterised their opponent’s offense. Sadbh Doyle threaded in a wonderful through ball for Becky Watkins that nearly found the back of the net, Watkins skipping past Kelly but unable to get the shot off at a tight angle.
Towards the end of the half, Peamount kept on pushing, Carla McManus playing in a dangerous cross that was flicked onto the post by Watkins. The constant opportunities for Peamount drew an inspired performance from Kelly, who at the brink of half-time, leapt acrobatically to paw away a goal-bound Carla McManus header.
As the second half kicked off, there was no apparent shift in monetum. Soon Tara O’Hanlon picked up the ball in her own half and proceeded to bomb down the left wing skipping past any challenges put in by the Bohs defenders. She was eventually clipped from behind by Ciara Maher in the box, referee Mark Patchel pointing to the spot.
Karen Duggan stepped up and buried the ball cooly into the bottom right-hand corner and put her side in a lead that they refused to relinquish.
Bohs remained blunt in their attacking output, and soon Kate Mooney received a beautiful through ball from Doyle on the right side of the box, Mooney slotting past Kelly in composed fashion.
Little did Peamount know that while they were playing that second half, title rivals Shelbourne suffered a 1-2 defeat to Galway United just ten minutes down the road. The Peas go five points clear in the table, and they get a chance to further build on that gap when they play Shels at home on Wednesday.
Bohs will hope to turn their fortunes around when they welcome DLR Waves to Dalymount for a mid-week clash.

And it's full-time at Dalymount. Peamount stays top of the table, and are now a further five points clear of second place.
McGrath carded for a challenge on Lisa Murphy.
McManus goes off for Rachel McGrath.
Aoife Robinson goes on for Rachel Doyle.
Bohs win a corner, and send nine players up in to the box. Kate Mooney heads clear.
Goal! Sadbh Doyle cuts through the Bohs defence to find Kate Mooney on the right who slots it home calmy to make it 2-0.
Bohs have been able to channel up any significant chances since the goal and will need to make some significant tactical adjustments if they want to find an equalizer.
McManus catches the ball on the right-side of the box, her shot flying over the bar.
O\'Hanlons failed to recover from the challenge and has been replaced by Dora Gorman.

Karen Duggan steps up and buries the ball cooly into the bottom-right corner!
Penalty! O'Hanlon paces down the left-hand side and shrugs the Bohs defender and is clipped by Ciara Maher before she can get the ball out of her feet.
A potentially massive result for both teams at Tolka Park, Shels falling 1-2 to Galway United.
Peamount get the action back underway for the second half!
And it's half-time in Dalymount.
It\'s been an inspired performance from Kelly who gets a hand on a McManus header to paw it away.
Watkins skips past Kelly thanks to a through ball from Sadbh Doyle, but can't quite work the angle to finish and Kelly recovers.
Peamount go close! Carla McManus puts in a dangerous cross that meets Watkins and is flicked onto the left post and eventually collected by Kelly.
A poorly-timed challenge from Tara O'Hanlon on Rachel Doyle sees O'Hanlon carded.
Another last-ditch effort from Craven sees her block Becky Watkin's shot from six yards out.
And the two are now back on the pitch.
Play interrupted after Burke and Chloe Moloney go off the pitch after a clash of heads.
First corner of the game for Bohs. Rachel Doyle finds Maher who can only fire wide.
Bohs might struggle to score however if they continue to fail to commit players forward. As they break Rowe is routinely the only player in the box, while the whole backline languishes behind the half-way line.
Bohs are growing into the game and are now pushing the tempo. Mia Dodd nearly whips in a dangerous cross but is blocked by Burke.
Rowe finds Burke in box with acres of space, Burke's touch letting her down as the ball is calmy collected by Niamh Coombes.
It's been all Peamount so far. The Peas have been able to pin Bohs in their own half quite comfortably, Bohs struggling to play out of what's been some intense pressing from Peamount so far.
Rowe looks to be playing in the pocket between Bohs midfield and Peamount's backline, trying to feed Erica Burke in behind.
Ciara Maher loses the ball in possession to Kate Mooney, spots Kelly in no-mans land and goes for a lob, her effort petering out of speed too early, reaching the goal and rolling wide.
Mooney leaps up from a corner to head the ball and put it past Rachael Kelly, Lynn Craven forced to clear it from the line!
Kate Mooney gets up well from a corner but fails to find the right connection with the ball and heads out for a goal kick.
And things have gotten underway at Dalymount!
And the ball's brought out by Boh's new-and very charming-Dublin bus ball carrier.
Teams are now out on the field.
A win at home for Bohs would serve as a huge statement of intent as they look to solidify a place in the top half of the division after last year's mediocre seventh-place finish. The Gypsies know it will be a difficult task, especially with Shamrock Rovers' re-introduction into the league. Speaking to The Sun, Ciara Maher says she's relishing the challenge: "It’s a bit unusual with the new teams coming in…I feel like the league will be quite tight with the spread of players going to Shamrock Rovers, Shels gaining, and a few from outside the country coming into the League of Ireland as well, which is great as it shows how much it’s progressing...I feel like it will be competitive, which is what you want. You don’t want a set three or four teams who will run away with the league. You want competition and games to go different ways each week. Hopefully we will be up there.”
Two of the Peas' brightest talents, Ellen Dolan and Jess Fitzgerald, are ruled out by international commitments, starring in a 3-0 win over Kosovo for Ireland's U17 squad.
For Peamount, top scorers (2) Becky Watkins and Kate Mooney both start, alongside Carla McManus and Lauryn O'Callaghan who each made the latest LOIW team of the week.
Star signing Sarah Rowe starts for The Gypsies. She bagged her first goal of the league campaign last week against Galway United and has looked impressive in the opening fixtures, showcasing the physicality and tenacity required to compete as a triple-code sportswoman.
Good afternoon and welcome along to this afternoon's match report of Bohemians vs Peamount United. Bohs have enjoyed a solid start to the new season, the only blotch on their record a 2-0 loss to reigning champions Shelbourne. Peamount have been in cruise control since the opening weekend, taking three wins from three, scoring eight and letting in just the one solitary goal.
