Match Report

Tribesmen give Waterford the blues

It’s three from Three for Galway as they come out victorious over Waterford in the RSC.
It was Vincent Bordens third goal of the season from a corner as he snuck in at the back post to head home to see his side take the lead with just 21 minutes on the clock.

Galway maintained their 100% record and have back to back clean sheets with a big thanks to keeper Brendan Clarke who made two fantastic saves during the 90 minutes.

It was a much anticipated clash in what many believe to be the front runners for this year's title and automatic promotion.

It was a lively start to the game but Galway got on top early on and had Waterford struggling to break them down defensively.

Vincent Borden rattled the crossbar after just 7 minutes on the clock, almost a disaster start for the home side.

While Waterfords Conn-Clarke had his great effort from 25 yards out, it was well saved by United keeper Brendan Clarke after 14 minutes.

With 21 minutes on the clock United found the back of the net from a corner kick Vincent Borden with his third league goal of the season snuck in at the back post unmarked to put the homeside 1-0 up and on the passage of play United deserved this lead.

Roland Idowu had an effort from outside the box easily saved after 33 minutes and this is what Waterfords main attempts were limited to shots from distance as they built up the play too slowly and allowed United to retreat into their defensive shape!

Galway saw out the half well and went in at the break leading 1-0.

The second half started quite dull, both sides taking their time to get back into the swing of the game.

Vincent Borden again had a good effort well saved from a free kick with his low driven shot being parried out from a corner on 55 minutes.

It took until the 66th minute for Waterford to get their best effort of the half, Eddie Nolan getting on the end of a great free kick and his header looked goal bound only for a great save by Brendan Clake.

Much like their last match Galway seemed happy to see out their advantage and looked to take Waterford on the break.

Waterford lacked cutting edge and failed to trouble the Tribesmens goal in the latter stages.

John Caulfield and Ollie Horgan will surely be delighted with their side's ability to see out the game and showed real confidence in their defensive abilities, a very Professional and disciplined performance.

Waterford with work to do after only gaining four points from their first three games
