LOI FD Report: Feeney leaves it late to break Treaty

Ian Ryan’s tenure in charge of Bray Wanderers got off to the perfect start, as his side stole the points on Shannonside, thanks to Ben Feeney’s late, late strike. The teenager found the net in the 89th minute, after an underwhelming contest.

For Bray, their winter of heavy recruitment under new boss Ian Ryan will mean pressure for results, and they shaded the opening half here.
Tommy Barrett’s Treaty were off the fragmented and couldn’t create clear openings for marksman, Enda Curran.

The opening half an underwhelming affair. These sides cancelled each other out for long periods, but Bray marginally got on top. That said, they failed to force a meaningful save from now Treaty number one, Conor Winn.

A real opening for Bray arrived on 30 minutes, when Len O’Sullivan found Jake Walker, his low cross was perfect for Lyons, but for a sliding intervention from Anto O’Donnell. The Cork native returning to the heart of the Treaty defence after a year out of the League of Ireland.

At the other end, Lee Devitt forced the first save of the half with the clock on 44 minutes.
His speculative effort from around 25-yards, was pushed away by a flying save from Alex Moody.

That left it scoreless at Markets Field, before an estimated 1,100 in attendance.

The second half was marginally better, a higher tempo from both allowed that happen. It was Treaty who created the clearer openings. With 15 minutes to go, efforts from Lee Devitt and then from Conor Barry were blocked by Cole Omorehiomwan.

Bray had early earlier gone close through Ger Shortt’s curled effort and Chris Lyons was close to a goal from a Shortt cross.

The winner arrived thanks to two subs, Callum Thompson centred for the sharp Feeney, who made no mistake from inside the six-yard area. Bray delighted with their start after a forgettable 2022.
