Match Report
Dundalk come from behind to beat Shels at Oriel
In a close game against Shelbourne at Oriel Park, Dundalk had to fight back from behind to claim another victory in the space of four days.
JR Wilson had given the Reds a deserved lead for their first-half efforts, but Dundalk completely turned the game around with two goals from Rayhann Tulloch and Andy Boyle. The Lilywhites now have two significant victories under their belts as they travel to Derry on Friday. Boyle, who turns 32 tomorrow, gave the Lilywhite fans and himself the ideal present to start their week.
Dundalk had the first chance to score as Archie Davies broke down the right and slipped a deft pass inside to John Martin, who shot the first time but had his shot blocked. It was however Shelbourne who would take the lead as JR Wilson snatched the ball from Darragh Leahy as he beat the offside trap and the Reds defender broke free. He then took his time to trick Nathan Sheppard and slide the ball past the advancing Dundalk goalkeeper.
Dundalk struggled at times, and Shels nearly scored again when Andy Boyle and Wasiri Williams made a mistake, allowing Jack Moylan to have a chance that went wide for a corner. Both Moylan and Lunney had opportunities from the next corner, but both were closed down.
Dundalk began to regain control of the game, and Greg Sloggett connected with a well-placed corner from the right at the back post, but his attempt just missed. Just before halftime, Rayhaan Tulloch came close to scoring an equaliser despite having little to no room to move in the area. Kearns had to move well to block Tulloch's shot from getting past him.
Rayhaan Tulloch's equalizer gave Dundalk the perfect start to the second half. After Cameron Elliot lost his balance, Darragh Leahy made a break for it on the left, and Rauhaan Tulloch snuck in behind him to head it past Kearns.
The Lilywhite winger was denied by an incredible save from Kearns as Tulloch again broke into the Dundalk area and left the Shels defense for dead. When Jack Moylan bobbed and weaved past Boyle, Nathan Sheppard was there to make a superb save, stopping the Dundalk goalkeeper's low curling attempt.
Patrick Hoban caused a lot of trouble for the opposition after coming on, forcing a corner as Dundalk kept up the pressure. On the delivery of the ensuing corner, Andy Boyle scored for the first time tonight by outdoing Paddy Barrett to the ball and starting his birthday off on the right note.
