Rampant Cork School Sorry Students
Two goals in either half secured Cork City’s first win the season as they emerged 4-0 winners over UCD at Turners Cross.
From the get-go, the hosts were looking to make amends for the slow start to the season with a noticeable increase in tempo and energy in their play.
Indeed, City had the ball in the net after six minutes through Barry Coffey but unfortunately for the former Celtic player, the goal was ruled out for offside.
Another great chance for City came five minutes later through Aaron Bolger, who made a darting run into the box but his shot was saved at the near post by Lorcan Healy who was mightily impressive for the students.
The hosts did get their goal in the 13th minute however through a fantastic long ranged effort from Matt Healy whose 25 yard shot into the bottom corner left his name sake with no chance in the UCD goal.
Josh Honohan and Daniel Krezsic both spurned great chances in the middle of the half for City with UCD’s defensive lapses leaving them far too open for Cork to get in behind.
The inevitable second goal came on the stroke of half-time through Darragh Crowley who smashed home a shot into the bottom corner after a well worked corner, in a similar vein to Healy’s opener.
Coffey was the only blot on the night for the hosts as he was forced off in the second half with a hamstring injury.
Otherwise, City continued to dominate and got their third in the 66th minute through Ruairí Keating who had the perfect response to being booked a minute earlier when he tapped home from six yards out for 3-0.
Three became four five minutes later through substitute Ethan Varian who headed home Healy’s cross for his first goal for the club on his home debut.
Tunde Owolabi and Joe O’Brien Whitmarsh should have added to the scoresheet for the hosts in the final ten minutes with Whitmarsh in particular hitting the post.
As for UCD, the visitors never got going on a disappointing night for Andy Meyler’s side. His opposite Colin Healy can look forward to a trip to Tallaght to take on Shamrock Rovers Monday night with renewed confidence.

Ruairí Keating recieves a yellow card for a soft enough challenge on Keane who've been at each other all night.
O'Brien off for Norris and Dempsey on for Bishop for UCD. Coffey is off with a hamstring injury and is replaced by Albin Wimbo while Daniel Crezsic is off for Ethan Varian.
Bishop is in a great position for UCD but he blazes his shot over. Really should have done better there.

Another great long ranged effort from Matt Healy but his namesake manages to tip it over the bar. Lorcan Healy has been fantastic for the students tonight.

Healy denies City yet again, this time from from Keating's opportunistic half vollied effort.
Keating down injured for Cork with what appears to be an ankle injury. Looks ok to play on however.
Good spell of possession for UCD ends up in a set piece opportunity but Jimmy Corcoran safely deals with the situation.
Daniel Creszic should have scored there for City. He robs the ball and has acres of space plus being one on one with the keeper but somehow Healy makes the save.
Lovely play from City, controlling posession with confidence before Honahan crosses into Bargary who just can't get a head on it.
Josh Honohan inches away from doubling City's lead but his header from the free kick goes inches over the top of the bar.
Yellow card for UCD's Donal Higgins for a clumsy tackle on Ruairí Keating.
City very impressive in the opening 20 minutes here with UCD struggling to get any rythm.
Great long range finish from Matt Healy from a pre worked move to put City ahead. He kept the shot low and hard from about 25 yards out giving Lorcan Healy no chance in the UCD goal.
Great chance for City. Aaron Bolger intercepted the ball just outside the box but Lorcan Healy saves his shot at the near post. It would have been a certain goal if he squared to Keating.
Great play from UCD's Alex Nolan who turns Crowley inside out on the left wing. Unfortunately for him there's no one in the box to meet his cross.
Barry Coffey has the ball in the net for City but it's ruled out for offside. Replay shows its the correct decision.
Good move by City there with Keating nearly getting a close range effort away but the ball is taken from him just as he's about to shoot.
City looking the sharper early as they look to use home advantage to good use by getting on the front foot.
