Match Report

Bohemians Remain Unbeaten In Dalymount Showcase

Bohemians maintained their perfect start to the season with an excellent performance over Dundalk at Dalymount Park.

Former Dundalk player Jordan Flores hit a sublime strike in the first half to put the home side ahead. Despite a spirited period in which Dundalk searched in vain for an equaliser Declan McDaid put the Lilywhites to the sword with a clinical finish as the game reached its conclusion.

Johannes Yli-Kokko did pull one back for Dundalk on his debut for the Lilywhites but it was in vain as O’Donnell will have to go back to the drawing board for his first win of the season.

In front of the biggest crowd Dalymount has seen in years Declan Devine's side is sitting pretty at the top of the league.

Bohemians started the brighter and had the first sight of goal as Jordan Flores’ strike from the edge of the area went wide of the mark. Dylan Connolly next went close for the hosts as his overhead effort was mistimed with the ball evading him as he failed to haunt his old club. Bohemians had another sight on goal with a good chance as the ball fell kindly to Johnathan Afolabi who struck it on the half-volley with the ball going just inches over.

Louie Annesley had to stop Afolabi en route to the goal and in turn, conceded a free kick that led to the opening goal. Flores stepped up from the right and struck an unstoppable effort that flew past Sheppard in the Dundalk goal.

The home started as they meant to go on as Keith Buckley got the ball on the edge of the area and struck a low effort that flashed across the face of the Dundalk goal, this was followed by a brilliant run from Ali Coote moments later with the Bohemians playmaker cutting onto his right foot and striking a perfect low effort that forced Sheppard into a diving save. Dundalk's then had their first sight of the goal of note as a cross from Archie Davies into the area was met by Patrick Hoban who headed towards Talbot's goal but it went wide of the mark.

James Talbot was called into action once more as new Dundalk signing Johannes Yli-Kokko broke free of the Bohemians' defence and it looked to be one on one with Talbot but a diving save from the Bohs keeper averted the danger.

Despite that pressure from the Lilywhites Bohemians were to get their second from as Afolabi broke down the right and fed it to Declan McDaid who steadied himself before hitting a low effort that flew past Sheppard. Johannes Yli-Kokko was to get one back for Dundalk as he struck from the edge of the area and his unstoppable shot flew past Talbot as he could not catch the effort

Louie Annesley is very lucky here as he body-checked Dylan Connolly and he wasn't the last man which would have been interesting if he had.

  • 39'

  • 20'

Archie Davies tries his luck from distance but it flies over the Des Kelly stand.

  • KICK OFF: We are underway at Oriel Park, Dundalk get us underway - there is just below 5,000 people here and the atmosphere is fantastic.

  • Tonight is Stephen O’Donnell’s 13th time managing against Bohs. He has won 6, drawn 3, and lost 3 of the previous 12 games but is undefeated against them as Dundalk boss having won the last 3 meetings 2-1 at Oriel last October, 1-0 in Dalymount last August, and 3-1 in Oriel in May

  • Dundalk is unbeaten in their last six matches against Bohemians – winning 4 and drawing 2. That sequence began with a 2-1 win at Oriel Park in September 2021 when goals from Sam Stanton and Patrick Hoban made Tyreke Wilson’s late reply irrelevant.
