Treaty United into last Eight after victory at Maynooth

Treaty United are into the FAI Cup quarter-finals after they emerged 3-0 winners against a determined Maynooth University Town side.

Strikes from Enda Curran, William Armshaw, and Lee Devitt saw the First Division outfit through with relative ease after a bumpy first half.

On paper, this had the potential of a Cup banana skin for Treaty as Maynooth flew out of the traps, impressing with their attacking intensity. Paddy O’Sullivan was a danger to the away side and goalkeeper Conor Winn, into a couple of smart stops.

Yet for all their dominance, Maynooth gifted the first goal of the night to their opponents. Joe Collins nipped possession from Paul Concannon and set Enda Curran away one-on-one. His finish was clinical, and Treaty went into the break, with a rather smash-and-grab, one-goal lead.

The action-packed feel of the tie resumed after half time when Conor Melody won a penalty despite going down dramatically under very minimal contact. Curran, uncharacteristically though, fluffed his lines from twelve yards out, his kick saved by Shane Fagan.

By response, Sean Traynor brought the best out of Winn when he launched a vicious strike at the Treaty goal and Winn acrobatically tipped it behind.

Curran’s penalty miss was then rendered immaterial as Treaty doubled their lead with fifteen minutes remaining. Dean George tiptoed into the box, Colin Conroy, in possibly his first touch on as a substitute, miscued his backheel but fellow sub, William Armshaw was perfectly placed to tap home.

Maynooth, having exerted so much energy, in a fine first half display, were tiring and subsequently, conceded a third. Lee Devitt slalomed through weak attempted tackles and rifled home easily, putting a flattering seal on the score line for Treaty.

Despite the late concessions, this was still a commendable overall performance by the Leinster Senior League Club. For First Division Treaty, a playoff place in the league may take priority but they can now also look forward to the FAI Cup quarter final draw with a vested interest.

The First Division side lead! Its a horrible moment for Maynooth midfielder, Paul Concannon who is pickpocketed by Joe Collins. He slides in Enda Curran who finishes ruthlessly one-on-one against home keeper Shane Fagan. A bitter pill for Maynooth to swallow
