FAI Cup Report: Bonagee United v Pike Rovers
Bonagee United ensured their advancement to the next round of the FAI Cup after they cruised to a 6-0 victory over a ten-man Pike Rovers side in Letterkenny this afternoon.
New signing Conor Black opened scoring for the home side on 15 minutes after his diagonal effort sailed over the Pike 'keeper.
A challenge on Mark Harkin would see Pike's Steven McGann red-carded on 32 minutes and United would add their second goal shortly after through a Micheal Doherty free-kick.
Goals from Tony McNamee either side of half-time would see the Ulster Senior League club go four goals ahead and Jamie Lynagh added a fifth with a header on 65 minutes.
Conor Black poked in his second with eight minutes remaining to secure a 6-0 victory for the USL triple-cup winners.
After a slow start at Dry Arch Park, Bonagee began to dominate play on their home patch.
The Donegal side had the first good chance of the fixture when Michael Funston shot at goal and forced Pike's debutant 'keeper Sean Moroney to make a save.
United continued to put pressure on the visitor's area and after several half-chances, they went a goal ahead on 15 minutes.
Conor Black sent a diagonal toward the Rovers' goal and the ball glided into the net at the far post as Moroney failed to claim it.
Pike took another blow after half an hour of play when they were reduced to ten men after referee Packie Coll sent off Steven McGann.
United struck again soon after when Micheal Doherty bent a free-kick around the Pike defensive wall and into goal past the badly positioned 'keeper.
The home side were now well on top and netted a third just before half-time when Tony McNamee got on the end of a deflection outside the box and directed his shot into the bottom corner of the Pike goal.
McNamee struck again soon after the restart as Michael Funston headed on a Gareth Harkin delivery into the Rovers' area and the former Finn Harps man poked it in at the far post.
Lynagh extended the Invincible's lead as he got a free-header on Doherty's corner.
With the game dead, Black added his second goal of the game when he got on the end of a cutting Doherty pass and toe -poked past substitute goalie Ryan Manning.
