Match Report
Shelbourne earned their place in the next round with a comfortable win in Bray
A brace from Sean Boyd and one from Jack Moylan saw Shelbourne advance to the Second Round of the FAI Cup with victory over a poor Bray Wanderers side at the Carlisle Grounds.
Boyd put Shels ahead in the fifth minute when he shot home from close range after connecting with a Conor Kane low cross. He grabbed his and his side’s second goal in the 11th minute.
Bray, who are struggling in the First Division, offered nothing and failed to bring a decent save of note out of Shelbourne keeper Brendan Clarke. Shels got their third goal in the 67th minute when a fine move involving Shane Farrell and Matty Smith was finished to the net by Moylan.
Boyd tried his luck in the third minute but his effort was tipped onto the crossbar by Bray keeper Stephen McGuinness. Two minutes later he broke the deadlock.
Shels exposed the home side on a number of occasions. Poor defending saw the Dublin side double their advantage in the 11th minute.
In the 17th minute, Boyd had a chance with a free header but it was off target. Bray lived off scraps and in the 18th minute, Callum Thompson’s shot was blocked down by Ledwidge.
Boyd caused Bray so many problems and in the 22nd minute, his effort came off the post as Shels went in search of more goals.
From a corner in the 44th minute, Gavin Molloy was afforded a free header at the back post but he directed his effort wide. One minute later he hit a fine strike but it was straight at Bray keeper Stephen McGuinness.
There wasn’t much of note in the opening quarter of the second half with Shels very much in control. Jamie Hollywood hit a shot for the home side that came back off Brendan Clarke while Kurtis Byrne should’ve done better with his effort in the 62nd minute.
Shels got their third goal in the 67th minute through Moylan. There was very little action after that. Both managers decided to make changes and it broke up the game.
