Cork City see off Bonagee challenge to reach the Quarter Finals of the Cup

Cork City were in no mood for remorse as they ruthlessly dispatched Donegal’s Bonagee United 7-0 at Turner's Cross this afternoon.

Cork City were in no mood for remorse as they ruthlessly dispatched Donegal’s Bonagee United 7-0 at Turner's Cross this afternoon.

Despite the underdog's status, Bonagee made a bright start to the game, operating a high press which took City time to negotiate.

Once the hosts got into a rhythm, however, they took control of the game, getting the opening goal on nine minutes through Lauren Singleton who pounced on a blunder from Bonagee goalkeeper Niamh Malley.

City doubled their lead ten minutes later when Christina Dring smashed the ball home from close range.
Two became three five minutes later when Aoibhinn Donnelly ran in behind the Bonagee defence before slotting home to effectively end the game as a contest.

Danny Murphy rang the changes for City at the start of the second half and it was substitute Chloe Atkinson who made it 4-0 with an excellent strike giving Malley no chance in the Bonagee goal.

Eva Mangan made 5-0 just a couple of minutes later with a well-taken finish from close range as City began to pile on the pressure.

Zara Foley got City’s sixth just after the hour mark as both sides began to make substitutes to get some much-needed minutes.

City were awarded a penalty in the 69th minute but Malley made an excellent save from Laura Shine in the bottom right-hand corner.

Shine would get her goal ten minutes later however when she headed home from a corner to make it 7-0.
Bonagee to their credit kept fighting to the end in what has been a successful season for the Donegal outfit with plenty for them to build on for the rest of the season.

Overall, a very professional performance from Murphy’s side who march on to the quarter-finals.
