Match Report
Brophy strikes late to take points for Bohs
A late Abbie Brophy effort in the 90th minute gave Bohemians all three points after a tight affair in Turners Cross.
Both Rachael Kelly and Abby McCarthy made vital saves in their respective goals to keep their sides in it but it was the away side who triumph late on.
Cork City's Laura Shine was a constant thorn in the side of the impressive Bohs defence but the home side just couldn't last the entirety of the match with a harsh twist at the end.
It was an evenly contested opening 10 minutes between these two sides.
Cork started keeping hold of possession well in the opening stages but failed to make any real attempts of note.
The away side grew into the match and started putting Cork City under pressure.
Bohemians Sinead Taylor came closest with her effort rattling the crossbar Cork surviving a scare after just 12 minutes.
Both sides were moving well and getting into attacking areas just lacking a killer final ball to break the deadlock.
Rachael Kelly in nets for Bohemians showed she was alert when a great ball over the top caught out her defence, she reacted quickly to get off her line and snub out any chance of a Cork effort on goal.
In a half that was entertaining and both sides playing attacking football it was the defence that came out on top with both sets of attackers living off scraps and counter attacks from deep.
The two sides went in at the break 0-0 but not because of the lack of attacking intent.
The second half saw the chances become more prominent. Both sides went for the all important goal but just couldn't seem to find the back of the net.
Abby Brophy constructed a brilliant chance for Rachael Doyle after 63 minutes Brophy cut inside from the right and squared it to Doyle who fired over her effort.
Laura Shine nearly broke the deadlock just two minutes later on the 65th minute mark she was set free in behind the Bohs back line but was denied brilliantly by Rachael Kelly to keep her side in the match and the scoreline 0-0.
The latter stages of the match were dominated by Bohemians pinning Cork City back for a large spell but just failed to create that all important goal.
Cork looked impressive on the break but lacked that killer instinct in front of goal.
In a dramatic late twist Abbie Brophy who had been impressive all evening snuck in behind the Cork back line in the 90th minute and fired home to give her side a very late lead Abby McCarty in nets got a glove to it but unfortunately for herself and Cork City in found the back of the net leaving no time for a response as the away side take all three points.
