WNL: Shels run riot against Treaty
It was all too easy for league leaders Shelbourne as they overcame Treaty United by ten goals to nil at the Markets Field this evening in the SSE Airtricity WNL.
Jemma Quinn got the scoring underway in the third minute, and was soon followed by Leah Doyle in scoring to make it two-nil before the 10 minute mark.
An Emma Deegan own-goal on 40 minutes was followed by two Noelle Murray goals, the latter a penalty, before Pearl Slattery's header made it 6-0 to Shels before half-time.
Two wonderful volleyed scores in the second-half saw Jemma Quinn compete her hattrick and take her side eight goals ahead of a poor Treaty side.
Noelle Murray completed her hattrick on 83 minutes and added another one soon after.
Despite the departures of some of Shelbourne's best players to English clubs this summer, it took just three minutes for the Reds to score today, a feat they also achieved in their previous fixture with Treaty at Tolka Park.
Noelle Murray had her point-blank effort excellently saved by Trish Fennelly but the Treaty goalkeeper could not stop Jemma Quinn's follow up that saw the visitors take the lead.
Shelbourne continued to mount the pressure and had a second goal soon after when Leah Doyle received the ball on the edge of the square. Right of goal with no defenders in her path, she launched a shot past Fennelly to make it two nil.
Already looking the inferior team, Treaty were also met with bad luck.
Defender Shannon Parbat was injured before 15 minutes and her replacement, Esra Kengal was forced off on 34 minutes after a nasty collision, enforcing a lengthy break in play and putting pressure on Treaty's already sparse bench.
This only appeared to refresh Shels and winning a corner soon after play resumed ended with Treaty's Emma Deegan unfortunately chesting the ball into her own net to extend the visitors' lead.
On 43 minutes, Noelle Murray got on the end of a good passing move by Shels to open her account. Five minutes later, she despatched a penalty to make it 5-0 to the Reds.
Shels defeated the Shannon-siders six-nil last October but achieved and scoreline in the first half alone today, when, just before half-time, Treaty struggled to deal with a corner and Pearl Slattery headed in.
Three half-time subs did litte to hinder Shels onslaught and Jemma Quinn scored her side's seventh of the game with a wonderful half-volley on 58 minutes. Six minutes later, Quinn struck again, volleying a corner into goal from an acute angle to complete her hattrick.
Not to be outdone, Noelle Murray went in search of adding more goals to her tally and completed her hattrick on 83 minutes.
A minute before the full 90 she struck her fourth to see Shelbourne to a massive win.
