Match Report

First win of the season for Cork City

Cork City picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Bohemians 2-1 at Turners Cross this evening.

City responded impressively from last week’s 7-0 rout at Shelbourne with the home side the better team in opening quarter with chances from Becky Cassin and Aoife Cronin.

Kira Crosbie was the bright spark for Bohs’ down the right hand side and had their first chance on 26 minutes when she got in behind the City defence but her lobbed attempt was saved by Abby McCarthy.

The main story of the half however was Bohs’ defender Katie Burdis having to go off on a stretcher in the 41st minute after a heavy collision which forced a break in play for nearly seven minutes.

Bohs’ should have been ahead when play restarted as Sinead Taylor hit the post after a mistake from Danielle Burke.

City took complete control of the second half and finally got their breakthrough on 71 minutes when Aoife Cronin rounded goalkeeper Courtney Maguire to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Captain Becky Cassin got City’s second on 82 minutes when she got on the end of a great pass from Nathalie O’Brien to make it 2-0.

While Bohs’ ensured a grandstand finish when they got a goal back with two minutes left, Paul Farrell’s side held out to pick up their first three points of the season.

  • Full time as City hold out for their first points of the season after a well deserved 2-1 win.

  • 90'

Three minutes of added time to be played at Turners Cross.

  • 88'

Goal for Bohs, looks like an OG, in for a grandstand finish.

  • 86'

Great chance for a third for Cork but the ball goes out for a corner. Paul Farrell's side finishing the game very strongly.

  • 82'

Captain Becky Cassin gets City's second goal after finishing off a great pass.

  • 76'

Shaunagh McCarthy is on for Cork in place of the goalscorer Aoife Cronin.

  • 71'

Just as I say it, Aoife Cronin breaks the deadlock for the hosts. A great run into the box and rounds the keeper to give Cork a deserved lead.

  • 70'

City have been in complete control of this second half but have been unable to break the deadlock. Zara Foley gets through on goal but is blown up for offside.

  • 65'

Sub for Cork as Zara Foley is on for Aoibin Donelly.

  • 63'

Pace of the game has really gone up in the second half although there has been few clear cut chances.

  • 58'

Bohs struggling to hold the ball, especially in midfield and are forced to play through the wings in order to get any joy.

  • 50'

Good start to the second half from Cork who have looked threatening from crosses and set pieces so far in the game with another corner causing problems for the bohs defence.

  • 46'

Christina Dring on for Nadine Seward at the start of the second half.

  • Half-time at Turners Cross and it's 0-0 at the break. City started off the better but Bohs grew into the game and should have been ahead moments before the break. Main news however is Katie Burdis having to off on a stretcher. Hopefully she's ok and will update when I recieve any further news.

  • 45'

My goodness Boh should have scored there, mistake at the back from Daniell Burke which lets Chloe Derby through on goal, McCarthy does well to deny her but Taylor hits the follow up off the post.

  • 45'

Play back underway as Danielle Murray comes on for Burdis. Hopefully she will be ok.

  • 45'

Katie Burdis the player down injured. Hopefully she will be ok. Could be about six or seven minutes minimum of stoppage time but paramedics rightfully, taking as much time as necessary for the player's wellbeing.

  • 44'

Stretcher is on now, this looks serious enough.

  • 41'

Pause in play here as a Bohs player goes down after a nasty collision. Not quite sure who the player in question is from here.

  • 36'

Danger for City from a corner which causes mayhem in the box, referee blows for a free out however and City survive.

  • 29'

Great chance for City as Aoibin Donnelly puts in a great ball straight into the feat of Aoife Cronin but somehow fires her shot over the bar from just a couple of yards out.

  • 26'

Kira Crosbie has looked very threatening for Bohs on the right wing, making some great runs stretching the City defence. She gets on the end of Taylor's cross but her header is saved by McCarthy. Bohs having the better of the past five minutes.

  • 21'

First quarter has been quite even with City shading it in terms of posession and chances. Bohs look dangerous any time they go forward though.

  • 16'

Mistake at the back from City which gives Kira Crosbie a chance to get through on goal. She tries to chip McCarthy but the City keeper is able to collect the ball safely.

  • 12'

Great move by City down the right flank which results in a chance for Eva Mangan who drills her shot at Courtney Maguire who to her credit, makes a good save.

  • 7'

First shot of the game from Becky Cassin from just outside the box. Decent effort which just slides wide of the goal but the keeper had it covered.

  • 5'

Bohs shading the early stages in terms of possession but no chances for either side so far.

  • underway

  • Teams out onto the pitch and ready to go.

  • Hello and welcome to Turners Cross. Sam Curtin taking you through the action here from 5. Team news coming up shortly.
